11 appearances coming of the bench from 19 over a full season, being played out of position in all of them , the captain of the club from the past two seasons saying he is the best player hes ever played with, being played in a side that 100% of the time played long balls forward to a target man who flicked balls on for goal kicks, dropping down the leagues in what was clearly a money decision as its fine for us to pay silly wages now we have loads of money.

Suppose if he was 6 ft and ran around the pitch picking up yellows then he would be decent eh?

Im not here to convince the manager to retain him, hes left. He was just very underutilised at the club and I can't wait to see him flourish at Southport
You might repeat it, but it doesn't make it any more convincing.
It's now double rubbish.
Of course he's been sacked "left by mutual agreement".
Just like Edmo.
And anyone else that realizes that they are so poor they aren't wanted having been so poor they just can't cut it.

For what reason was he "sacked" then?

What did it go down as?

On this subject, and several others, you obviously don't know what you are talking about, and it looks like you are in danger of believing your own propaganda.
You obviously can't see when a player is trying and when he isn't.
His attitude after he missed the penalty against Kidderminster was utterly awful. Like a spoiled child.
If he was any good he would have played (under Edmo and Cox), and he wouldn't have been sacked.
Grand must have been amazed on those occasions when Grimes got a game that the brilliant player-in-training was nowhere to be seen where and when it mattered.

Time to leave this one alone a former member of this forum, you and Steeley have done your admirable best to convince Coxy to retain him but it's just not going to happen mate...

Did you see that quote chipmunx?

Simon Grand: "GREATSIGNING. One of the best players I've played with. Does things in training that you won't believe"

no - but perhaps they were playing smart and talking him up so some other team would be daft enough to sign him - just like Southport have.....

From the coach himself. If he was that good in training he would have got more game time. The players are hardly going to lay into him on Twitter are they. I tend to believe the coaches viewpoint. That's what it's based on.

They may not lay into him on twitter but they dont have to go on there and say that hes the best player theyve ever played with

Of course he had a contract for another year because he had a 2 year contract! That's why Cox let him go as soon as another club would have him! I couldn't bag a brace against Haverigg because when I played only our reserve team played against them!

You probably couldn't bag your shopping Russell.

What "if"? Go on Simon Grands twitter its all there.

He kept him on for 6 months so he didn't really "get rid of him as soon as he could" did he?

Go home Russell , you're drunk.
When I saw him the 15 yard radius was around the halfway line which is not what I call playing just off the striker. Plus the manager obviously kept him on because he had a contract and had no choice. If he had wanted to keep Grimes he would have played him in the team more often. And please don't be obnoxious. I'm certainly not drunk and have never resorted to personal abuse with you even though I would question that you have much in the way of football knowledge.

Re: Grimes

russell_anderson wrote:"End of" in your mind! In my mind when I saw him "End of" was that he actually didn't contribute anything. Hovered in a 15 yard radius; never got in a decent position to receive the ball; never put in a challenge to win the ball; never passed the ball more than 10 yards sideways; never had a shot on goal or even got near enough to have a shot. Granted a few away matches isn't a lot to go on but it's enough to judge whether a player is contributing anything and he wasn't! He's certainly not the worst player I've seen play for Barrow but there aren't many I've seen contribute less in a game. IF Simon Grand said that then he hasn't played with many decent players and he obviously disagrees with his former manager who hardly ever picked Grimes and got rid of him as soon as he could! And even managers like Cox who obviously think big players are a bonus in this league don't get rid of smaller ones if he thinks they have something to offer as shown by the fact that he kept Harvey who was very impressive in the games I saw him play. Grimes may or may not have been decent (a relative term at the level he's always played) but he certainly wasn't when I watched him.

Surely running around a lot is a variant of not making effort?

Sadly the same thing used to happen with Richie Baker. Slated week in week out on here because he was good with the ball at his feet whereas James Owen was hailed because he ran around and got booked.
Oh, the Richie Baker that's spent the prime of his career bumming about in Conference North?
Baker was also twice the player of Grimes and weighed in with double figures.

Apart from his goal record years before signing for us, what are you basing your argument that he's a good player on?
Baker did well because at the time we had to fill the bench with Dave Bayliss and one other sub so competition for places wasn't really that high. Baker was guaranteed to start in behind the striker and was rarely/never forced to play out of position up front or out wide like Grimes. Baker took all penalties and free kicks which helped his final double figures but he will be on a very good wage at Fylde and it's close to his home. Fair play to him if that is comfortable enough for him to live with

I think when your captain for the last two seasons describes him as the best player he has ever played with is proof enough.

Ashley Grimes was underused and underutilised by both managers. End of.

Just saying.

We probably offered him shit loads of cash like we usually do these days and contractors at BAE go where the jobs are so......
