Re: Notts County FC (A)

The problem with registering with a club is that they tend to assume that you are one of their supporters and they bombard you with emails. It took a couple of seasons for Grimsby to realise that I'd probably never go there again.

Re: 2000 home attendance

Many National League clubs would be extremely grateful for the amount of media coverage that Barrow get, both in the Evening Mail and on Radio Cumbria. The nearest club to me, Hampton & Richmond Borough in the National South, never get a mention in what purports to be the local newspaper; in fact no...

Except for fa cup games...when was the last time we had a home crowd of 2k or more?
When was the last time that we were serious contenders for promotion to League Two?

Re: Maidenhead United FC - Saturday 30th November

Tickets can be bought in advance, or just pay on the gate - I can't imagine the game selling out in advance! It doesn't appear to be any cheaper buying in advance, and last season at least, the queues at the turnstiles were minimal.

Re: Players Trom The Past

Tommy Cahill was, I think, the only player Barrow ever signed from a Division One (now Premier League) side whilst still under contract to that club, in this case Newcastle United.

Re: Players Trom The Past

"Kemp - John. 5ft 6ins, 10st 8lbs. Played 42 League games last season, joining Barrow from Leeds United in March 1959; born at Clydebank." That is the brief pen-pic of forward Johnny (as I recall that's how he was usually referred to) in the programme for Barrow's first game of the 1960-61 season at...

Re: Players Trom The Past

Ha ha. I've been going to Holker Street for a long time, but not quite that long!

As for [SwearFilter], Kerr I knew about the firm being based in Preston, and their involvement in railway engineering, but the rest of the info came from Wikipedia!

In the book's records section, Bell is listed among the 'Hat Trick Heroes' against Chester and Rossendale (four goals) in 1912-13, both Nelson and Heywood Central in 1913-14, Denton in 1915-15, Hurst in 1916-17, and [SwearFilter]*, Kerr's in 1920-21, all in the league. *diminutive of Richard [Swear...

Re: Notts County FC - Saturday 16th November

Anyone travelling by train from or via London needs to be aware that there are no trains direct from St Pancras to Nottingham. The National Rail website shows that most outward journeys are from King's Cross, with a change at Grantham. The return journey involves a change at Peterborough instead.

Doesn't the last train from Barrow with a London connection leave about half time? :)

I hope they are received with courtesy.
The Dover supporters who made it to the original game certainly should be.

Peter Mac was on the bench for the 1977 European Cup Final, a game which Liverpool won. However, McDonnell's winner's medal was lost after the game, believed by some to have been stolen and given to one of Liverpool's first-team players who had missed the final. I remember Peter saying once that hi...
