Re: 50 Years Ago Today: Ref Scores Barrow's Winner

Can anyone confirm where the shot was taken from ? Reading the reports I'm getting confused. Playing towards Steelworks end Mclean hits shot from Right or Left of penalty box ? Which corner flag was ball heading towards ? Where was ref stood? And which corner of the goal did ball go into, the now As...

Re: 50 Years Ago Today: Ref Scores Barrow's Winner

I was at the match as a young child. Still got the programme. Can't remember the goal because when you're young you tend to spend a lot of time just looking at what's going on around the ground rather than the action. John Hore who played for Argyle that day managed the side to the 1984 FA Cup Semi ...

Re: Thoughts - Pay what you want

A couple of years ago Morecambe tried it I think they got a crowd of around 4,300. In fact it may have even been free entry. Our last free entry game was against Telford in the Setanta Shield the first game had been abandoned due to wind blowing off an advertising board. I think that match in 2009? ...

Re: Ebbsfleet v Bluebirds

Many years ago I played for a local team in Barrow and we went through a spell where we created a lot of chances but never scored. I used to come back home most Saturday night's and think how unlucky were we. After a few weeks I realised we weren't unlucky we were just not very good. Good sides scor...

Re: 50 Years Ago Today: Barrow Ruled the Third

Excellent thread. Howard Riley lived in one of the club houses in Sanderling Lane Dalton. My family lived next door to him. I remember he once had us all round to show us films that he'd taken of local events, people playing in the snow, bonfires etc, with his at the time, rare cine camera. He then ...

Re: Harrogate Town (A)

At this early stage of of the season I'm already taking a look at how the bottom four sides are doing. Fortunately Maidstone are losing so there's a seven point gap between us and the bottom four.

Re: Updated Statement From Andrew Casson

With regard to the earlier post about Accrington. They were in League Two last season. They won the title this is their first back in League One, not second.

Re: Tonight’s meeting

A few years ago I seem to recall someone called Colin Moore tried to take over the club. He was a Barrovian who had become a solicitor? I wonder if he's the person that's already offered to buy the club ?

Re: Updated Statement From Andrew Casson

So in layman's terms does this mean the Casson's will sell their share of the club for I'm presuming around six hundred thousand pounds. If memory serves me correct that was how much Holker Street was worth when they took the club over. The £600,000 will then go back into the club to help finance the...

Re: Club Statement: New Chairman - Paul Hornby

Any person who has put money into their home town club has got to be thanked. When you consider the Casson's are reported to have invested around £4 million pounds that's one hell of a commitment. The only thing they did wrong was promise too much. If they'd come in and said we'll get the club promo...

Harrogate fixture change ?

Harrogate got knocked out of the FA Cup tonight in a replay at Wrexham I wonder if our away game will now be switched from the Tuesday night, October 30th, to a Saturday afternoon, the date of the FA Cup first round ? Saturday 10th November.

Re: Salford at home 29th Dec

I think this is probably the worse game from a financial view point that could have been shown. Salford would have brought a large travelling contingent to this match, they won't now with it being shown on TV and it being an earlier kick off. Financially a BT game against a southern based side who w...

Re: CHORLEY V BARROW

Just seen on the BBC site the score says match finished 2-2 .Hope they're right...BTW The Met Police made it through to the first round. I would think if they're at home that will be one of the TV games.
