Re: Next two games

Betting on next two games is not good for the blood pressure. The way i look at it - we have 12 games. Divide those into 4 groups of 3 games. If in each group we win 1, draw 1, lose 1 we will end up with 52 points and that will clearly be enough. So the most important thing we must do is to beat Sto...

Re: Best ever on our patch

This gets quite addictive. I've looked back at 66/67 & 67/68 and have come up with the following that appeared on team sheets at Holker Street Bruce Rioch - Luton later Derby Co. and Scotland Roy Macpharland - Tranmere later Deby Co. and England David Webb - Southampton later Chelsea Ron Davies - So...

Re: Best ever on our patch

I thought legend had it that Barrows biggest ever home gate of over 16,000 against Swansea Town in 1954 was mainly due to attraction of watching the legendary John Charles in his prime. If you go back into the 60's you'll find Ron Atkinson, Graeme Taylor and David Pleat all turned up regularly at Ho...

Re: The relegation battle

Given the type of season virtually everyone is having I dont think you can say there are any certainties either at the top or bottom. The key (might sound daft) is winning. Both Hyde and now Braintree have put together decent runs of wins, as opposed to others in our vicinty who have had too many dr...

Re: Newport County v Barrow AFC Match thread

THats a fantastic result. Especially amidst the recent doom & gloom. We've taken 6 out of 12 from four consecutive away games at Gateshead, Kiddermninster, Luton and Newport. I think we'd be satisfied with that even in a good season. It must have been a rough trip down there but a very happy coach c...

Re: New signing

I wonder if Bayles has got the new Danny Rowe on a BOGOF? Perhaps we only have pay one Danny Rowe's salary? Is this ruse to confuse the Taxman?

Question for the Stattos : Have we ever put out a side including two players with the same name (i.e. spelt the same)?

Re: Chesham

Strange sort of day in leafy but very wet Bucks. Not a very confrontational atmosphere in fact not much of an atmosphere at all apart from the Chesham managers occasional four letter rant. Locals were very pleasant and talkative - it usual nice when you encounter a new set of inquisitive fans for th...

Re: Macc

Did all four. Unfortunately my abiding memory is that git Paul Furlong winning the tie at Stafford. Enfield were a big club in those days. Not any longer. Still gutted.

Re: Macclesfield if..

Doesn't look a great draw but if we're serious about trying to reach the 3rd round again its not at all bad. Both times we've reached the 3rd round in recent years we've had a pretty dreary route. The Oxford game is often quoted as a high point in those campaigns but they were a non-league side at t...

Re: Southport tonight

Dont know what the fuss is about. As soon as Boyes got the first I sensed it might happen again after watching them on saturday. Haven't stopped smiling
since and wont stop smiling for at least another 4 days. Sod grinding out results. This is entertainment!

Great result. Keep the faith.

Re: Braintree

First of all - what a great end to what looked like a predictably lousy game. Few endings generate that amount of man hugging on the terraces. Away support was awesome and I think actually helped keep the players heads up. I'm obviously biased but I thought the game was really all about Barrow. Star...

Re: "Barrow Rule the Third"

Interesting this thread has comu up again. Its amazing how long the words remain if they are not zapped quickly by the authorities Some years after BAFC were expelled from the Football League I was at Uni in Manchester and ended up living in a bedsit in Stockport behind Edgeley Park. Used to catch t...

Re: Bottom 4

As some may know, I've vented my feelings about Mr Alger and his predictions (to him personally) in previous seasons. As Blue Square are BSP sponsors then hes fully entitled of course to his view but having followed these over the last 4-5 years, they do appear to contain an element of institutional...

Holker Street Curse Downs Stags

Mansfield towns status as form team favourites for Promotion hit the fan yesterday thanks to an extra time winner by York City's Matty Blair. Of course this was not the true reason for the Stags demise as they entered the play-offs as the only team of the four to have won at Holker Street this seaso...

Re: Kettering v Barrow match thread

Well at least i've now seen a point at Nene Park (which as usual was freezing even before it chucked it down). Last three visits we conceded 4,4 and 5. Apart from Cambridge away (where we played well) i haven't seen the team during this current slump until today. I though it was ironic that although...
