Skype Chat Group

Post by Reg » Tue Jun 04, 2013 12:19 pm

I'm thinking of setting up a Skype group for people to chat all things Barrow.

It's really easy to do and it might be fun.

The only rules would be that there would be no anonymity and anyone who is abusive or threatening would be booted out pretty quick.

For those who maybe think that Skype is for voice chats only, it isn't. You can create large groups of people who can chat to each other in the same way that MSN Messenger allowed you to chat with friends.

If anyone wants to join, send me a PM with your Skype address and real name, if you know I don't know you, or it's not obvious by your skype address. You will need to do this so I can add you to my skype contacts and then add you to the group. Do not put your Skype address in the thread as it can be picked up by bots and such things, which you don't really want.

I'm in a couple of these types of groups for poker and if they're not abused, it can be a fun way to chat with people that share your interests.

will this work on my ZX Spectrum?
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out.
Next they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out.
And then they came for me…

http://www.skype.com/en/

Basically, it allows you to make free voice calls to friends/family all over the world as long as they have the program too.

It also has a chat feature that allows you to chat in the same way you used to be able to do on MSN and create groups, for group chats.

It's free and no home should be without it.

DaveC is in.

Lots of big names missing and if membership grows to 20 before Tiddler gets in on the act we can take a vote on whether to add him or not :)

PeeSee is the latest to join!

It's a bit like the first night on Big Brother in there right now but I'm sure folk will soon loosen up :)

I'll PM you my username Reg, but can't guarantee I'll be on a lot of the time. Will there be sessions or is it just a continuous chat?

Easiest thing is to just have it as a continuous chat - that way you can jump on/off skype as much as you want and people don't have to keep re-adding you to the conversation when you go offline. Otherwise we'd very quickly end up with more than one chat session and people not knowing who else is online

3 people to add.

I'll do it in an hour or so when I get the chance.

5 people added to my skype contact list.

I will add you to the group as and when you're signed in at the same time as me.
