A disappointing signing and he never showed me anything that warranted a run in the first team.No pace,no skill and lacked effort.Yes he won us a pen at Macc (dubious IMO) but he was given a penalty to take at Barrow which he failed to score.
Was never going to get into next seasons team so the right move for everyone.

I think my view of him is a combination of Moribunds, Nicks & Optimism's.

That said, I hope the move suits him.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Just a signing that never worked out for whatever reason, style of play, lack of effort, lack of opportunities. Happens all the time in football, obviously not in Cox's plans so give the lad move. Best thing for both parties.

I suppose we can only judge from what we saw on the pitch - he showed glimpses of potential but never really gave us a performance where he could sustain his place in the team. Behind the scenes, we don't know what he was like but I believe it was probably a factor as to why he wasn't favoured, both by Edmo and Cox.

Good luck, Ashley.

In the play Billy Elliot, young Billy is sent to boxing lessons by his father who was something of a local legend; however Billy secretly prefers ballet. After a humiliating defeat in the ring Ashley, er, I mean Billy confronts his father and (Cont. Round.94)

Thats what happens when your an attacking midfielder who wants the ball to his feet. Didn't really work to well if the balls going over his and Andy Cooks head for a goal kick.

Ive never understood this Barrow Fan logic of " Hes runs around alot so hes a good player."
That last paragraph is inaccurate in my opinion.
There isn't a thread on here suggesting that that is so, and that it accurately represents the extent of footballing analysis that Barrow fans can deliver; not that I've seen anyway.
For anyone that watches closely, and understands, this is a really physical league. Strength, fitness and commitment are absolute necessities. Strong running into telling areas is vital. Look at the majority of Cooks' goals last season.
The general skill level isn't high enough for general ball-to-feet football, much as we like it when it occasionally it happens.
Grimes obviously wasn't interested in getting stuck in. Not that type of player, though he didn't have a telling contribution of any sort to make that I saw when he was wearing a Barrow shirt.

Think he was at Bury at the same time as Southports recently appointed manager Andy Bishop so he should be aware of his abilities and shortcomings.

Grimes never showed his potential. You have to impress in training to change the mind set of the manager. He didn't do this. Probably be their top scorer next season.
Stood behind Ray Wilkie for years. Best education I ever had.

Don't know a former member of this forum but at the end of the day he was not good enough to wear the Barrow shirt.

I dont think Andres Iniesta would be if you gave him 13 twelve minute long sub appearances out of position in a team that plays route one football
