Pretty sure we played them another time too. And yes to all the goal details, but Tueart's equaliser was a brilliant, slow-motion, 20 yard floaty chip into the top of the Holker St net. Mick Richmond's nearly took the roof off.

Man City 1982 team from

Alex Williams
Ray Ranson
Bobby McDonald
Graham Baker
Kevin Bond
Tommy Caton
Aage Hareside
Chris Jones
Asa Hartford
Paul Power
Denis Tueart
David Cross
Nicky Reid

I was 12 at the time. I’ve got the fully autographed (Man City players) programme including Corrigan who was injured.

We played City in the aforementioned friendly in 1982.

We also played them in July 1993 in a testimonial for our 1966-68 star Billy McAdams and that ended in a goalless draw. I think Peter Reid was City's manager then . . . . or at least he certainly featured either as a player or as a manager. A number of former Barrow team-mates of Billy McAdams turned up and lined up on the pitch that night, including Brian Arrowsmith, Bob Knox, Fred Else, Mick Hartland, Tony Morrin, Dave Storf, Larry Carberry, Terry McDonald, Roy Ellison, Lionel Duffin (and a few more who perhaps didn't play in the same side as Billy but might have been managed by him when he had a spell as Barrow caretaker-manager). Why City? Billy had been a top-flight star for City back in the day and I believe when he passed away in 2002 his ashes were scattered on the old Maine Road ground. Along the way Bill had also had a spell at Brentford and one of the memorable things from that night in 1993 was that it seems as though some Brentford fans had travelled to Holker Street to show the regard in which he had been held as there was a banner on the terraces something along the lines of "Brentford remembers".

The1982 game was a fundraiser for AFC but it coincided with the commissioning of HMS Manchester a Type 42 destroyer built and launched in Barrow in 1980. City were invited and responded by sending their first team- a gesture that was really appreciated at the time by the town and the club as shown by the attendance. Perhaps we should invite them again for a pre season friendly .Even if they sent a junior team there would be no harm in maintaining links with a Premier League club.

Correct me if I am wrong here. I think that the aforementioned link between the two clubs was the consequence of the friendship between Bill McCullough (AFC Chairman at the time) and Peter Swales (City Chairman until the early 90s). One suspects that historical link has not carried over to the current owners.
