Bang goes my Velcro costume or drone inside the football idea!😉
I’m sure this will inspire Ryan to run a summer design competition! 😂

Why not use something like those spongy mats that Gymnasts use, Or something similar & Fix to the wall with the desired thickness & the ball boys/girls sit on a chair directly in front, So if there's a collision the matt absorbs the impact, You'd only need a handful.

As long as it complies with the H & S laws & the ball boys/girls can do their thing.

You need to do everything possible to maximize your chances of winning & if it helps by 0.5% its worth it.
So the ballboy is sat on a chair in front of some spongy mats. A ball coming at high speed hits him directly in the face. How is the spongy mat going to help?
As boyliegladbach says this is bizarre and that's a polite way of putting it!

Why not have the substitutes on trampolines and they can catch any balls that go astray?

Mark Waddington in a little kayak on the resser too, like that fella that used to patrol the River Severn when Shrewsbury played at Gay Meadow.

Same way they cope now? I don't see ball kids with crash helmets on anywhere else in football, do you, that would be bizarre?
You lot were implying the wall is dangerous so the mats would absorb most of the impact wouldn't it in the worse case scenario, Chair a few feet in front of the wall as we have the room.

'Us lot' weren't implying that the wall itself is dangerous. It's standing - or worse - sitting - in front of the wall - as a kid with a ball travelling at you at high speed.

Incidentally this is not necessarily my view, but I'm sure is the view of the club with so many health and safety laws leaving them wide open to prosecution from ambulance chasing lawyers etc.

The wall issue is nothing new. As a youngster it was always tempting to sit on the wall with our legs dangling pitchside, but there were always one or two constables (Specials, I think) making sure we didn't do it. In those days (early 60s) you did what a copper told you - unless you wanted a clip round the earhole.

And we didn't have 'elf n safety; just common sense.

And you'd get another off your parents if you told them that you'd had a clip round the earhole off a copper...

The reason we don’t have ball boy/girls is not because of surrounding walls or not protection , it’s because of one reason, we don’t have anyone who will take sole responsibility for them on match days who is CRB checked.

This is something that could be sorted out. If local junior sides were used, It would be the team coach and a helping parent or two that would look after them. The club would just need someone to facilitate the day.

There is nothing mentioned in any of the discussion that could not be sorted out. It just needs the drive to make it happen.

Fully agree Jonty, I’m sure it would be a great experience for the young ones, and it would add that extra bit of professionalism to our game day set up.

Tuesday nights would be fine but do junior sides play on Saturday afternoon?

Why does somebody asked the Raiders how they do it as they appear to have about 8 - 10 ball boys at each match , and imagine how hurt they would be if an 18 stone prop crashed into them!

The obvious answer is that the football just don't want ballboys. It's as simple as that, H&S, risk assessments are just a smokescreen. If they really wanted ballboys back at Holker Street then they'd have them, it's that simple!

I suspect that was the case in the past. Things have changed now and perhaps with the Trust now sitting on the board, it is something that can be looked into again? I think it is a great way of getting new fans on board and connect with the local Junior set up, I would happily present the information again to the Trust Director (Levi) to try and look at ways to make it happen and if there is any support for it.
