Tranmere

Post by Steelworks End » Sat Feb 18, 2017 12:23 am

For anyone travelling to Tranmere by train via Liverpool, the railway under the Mersey is closed and there will be a replacement bus service from Lime St or Moorfields to Birkenhead Central. If you want Rock Ferry (which is slightly nearer to the ground) it's a train from there.

Birkenhead Central is a misnomer; there's not much there apart from a flyover.

Buses from Barrow station to Ulverston on Saturday 25th. Me and a Barrow mate will be supping in Liverpool early doors before the game.

Yeah; I'd read info relating to this.
However, are you stating that there's a train from Lime Street to Rock ferry?
I thought BUSES had replaced the trains to all destinations on the Wirral Line?

The railway tunnel under the Mersey is closed so it's a replacement bus service from Lime St. etc. to Birkenhead Central. Trains are running on the Wirral side, so anyone wanting to catch a train from Birkenhead Central to Rock Ferry could do so, although it probably wouldn't be worth doing.

We got a taxi from the ground to Liverpool (Moorfields) after the game earlier in the season; cost about £18 I think, although it may have been more expensive than usual as the Birkenhead tunnel was closed and the driver diverted via the Wallasey one, which was a longer way round.

Get a plus bus ticket for the Birkenhead area, plenty of buses pass near the ground and saves the long walk from Rock Ferry.

Decisions...Decisions... :D

From Birkenhead Central several buses run past the ground. Merseytravel also offer a Soccerbus service from Birkenhead Central and Hamilton Square stations which runs from 90 minutes before kick off at 15 ? 20 minute intervals until 20 minutes before kick off, and for 20 minutes after the final whistle. If you book your Soccerbus ticket with your train ticket, the service costs £1 return or paying on the bus itself will cost ?1 each way.

An alternative is to use Rock Ferry station and make the 25 minute walk to the ground up Bedford Road, Bedford Avenue and Bedford Drive to Borough Road. Apparently, there are several fast food outlets along Borough Road, including Sayers bakers, Captain Tony's Pizza Emporium, Ruby's chip shop, Eastern Delight Chinese and a couple of cafes and plenty of newsagents, off licenses and general stores.

There are a number of pubs close to the ground. The Sportsmans Arms and the Mersey Clipper are both popular with home and away fans. Another option is the Prenton Park Hotel although it has recently introduced a policy of doormen on match day and instigating a complex home and away policy whereby you'll get asked a killer question such as 'home or away?' and the accent you reply with determines whether or not you get in! The Mersey Clipper is more fan-friendly for away supporters.

Obtained the info from here: http://www.tothe92.co.uk/groundguide/tranmere.html
So don't blame me if it's incorrect! :D

The soccerbus system has changed now. I think you can get a 'TR1' numbered bus which is once an hour from Lime Street - https://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/travell ... erbus.aspx

The new bus service provides a hassle free way to get to Tranmere home matches from Liverpool city centre for just £2 each way.

The bus times are as follows:

12.30pm Dale Street, 12.32pm Victoria Street, 12.34pm Lime Street, arriving Prenton Park at 12.55pm.

1.30pm Dale Street, 1.32pm Victoria Street, 1.34pm Lime Street, arriving Prenton Park at 1.55pm.

2.30pm Dale Street, 2.32pm Victoria Street, 2.34pm Lime Street, arriving Prenton Park at 2.55pm.

The above is taken from the Merseytravel site so don't blame me if it's incorrect!

Anyone else who is feeling anymore adventurous and is going to be travelling around Merseyside all day can get a Saveaway which is about a fiver and you can use all the Buses and Trains you like all day. You can also use it on a Mersey Ferry if you wand to take the scenic route. http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/Tickets/ ... fault.aspx

Last season when we played Tranmere I got the soccerbus to Prenton Park at the bus stop directly opposite Lime St. According to the website it doesn't seem to be running anymore - can anyone confirm this?
