Really hope we don’t need to use Eldson much this season
+2 looks awkward, gets caught out of position and gives dangerous free kicks away.

Yes John.

Took his goal well. Could do a job as a squad player providing cover.

Sadly I don’t think they will pursue him as Harrison has signed and he wants a defender and midfielder for his final 2 players

+3. Looks at odds with the bulk of the squad as if he doesn't really fit. Has had injuries and not a lot of first team time (until pre-season) but increasingly looks like he's not quite up to the required standard. The general improvement in quality across the rest of the squad is perhaps now exposing this. Perhaps too simplistic to suggest but he was a very early acquisition in the Evatt era at a time when filling huge holes in the squad was a
priority. The problem unfortunately I think was the two year contract because I dont think he'd still be here otherwise.

Will undoubtedly be a bench warmer this season with a brief to hold up an end for a period should circumstances dictate. Limited but still of some use.

Twelve months ago many on here were posting similar negative views on Dan Jones, and there is no doubt that, had he not been under contract for the season (or had another club made an offer) he would have been off..

Yet Ian Evatt persevered with him, and he had a superb season.

Perhaps we shouldn't be writing Matt Elsden off just yet?

I'll give him a bit more time but at the moment he just looks too slow for this standard of football. I will be surprised if he's in the starting eleven at Wrexham.

In case anyone missed Evatt's interview, he is not entirely happy with some of his squad. From the NWEM:

Evatt said: "I'm not unhappy because all it's doing is making my job a little bit easier. At the minute, I have a clear idea what our starting XI will be come Wrexham.

"They can take that as they want, but I just think that some of the lads need to wake up and smell the coffee a little bit and get up to speed with what we do pretty quickly.

"With some lads, I know what I'm getting week in week out. At the moment, I feel a bit like we're a bag of Revels; you never know what you're going to get. We're half to half at the minute, not even game to game, and we have to get a level of consistency."

I hope them Koln fans didn’t come especially to watch that game last night. The second half was awful.

Interesting comments from IE. I wonder exactly who he has in mind that needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Have only seen a couple of the pre-season games but I know what he means - some gems of performance interspersed with … well.. mediocrity. Reading between the lines I read this as "well my starting 11 looks pretty clear and pretty good. However we're going to need others to come to the party if we are going to thrive".

So who have been the stars and who in particular needs to get their finger out?

Like the Revels analogy. All going well until you get the coffee. Catches you out.
