Brilliant night that was knowing who we would be facing in the next round once again toppling the “giants” of Oxford to get there

Yes, excellent night, that was. I note Kevin Sandwith at no. 3 for them. He was a classy left back I remember in the short time he was with us. Came from Carlisle, played 14 and moved on to Telford.
It all comes 'round again.

I don't doubt it, whitty1969, just pointing out that developments did happen under the Cassons.

Giving this thread a little more thought it struck me that some of the best FAC trips I remember were the 60's games against non-league teams - potential banana skins.
Altrincham at the time Cheshire League champions and top dogs in the North west. Looked bad when they took the lead in controversial fashion,Bert Lister almost carrying Fred Else over the goal line as he tried to catch a corner. Then Ron McGarry emerged from the bench to take the game by the scruff of the neck and we won comfortably in the end.
Goole - Jimmy Mulvaney was on a hot streak at the time but we stuttered at the start of the game prompting a Goole fan to turn round and ask me 'wheres this Mulvaney character'. Almost on cue he connected with a poweful shot almost ripping the net. I tapped the fan on the shoulder and said 'There he is'
Alfreton - Think our form was at a low ebb and a giant-killing wasn't out of the question. After two draws the second replay was controversially arranged at the'neutral' ground of Chesterfield, literally a stones throw from Alfreton. We managed to scrape another draw and it was on to a third replay at Preston. Not sure what the gate was but it seemed like a training session behind closed doors. We comfortably saw them off wondering what had taken us so long.

Oldham away (we should have won), Brentford at home (the most special for me) and the two trips to the east coast v Premiership teams. I suppose Bristol Rovers at home is worth a mention because it was a ridiculous save from clawing back a 3-0 deficit.

The Bristol Rovers home game will live in the memory for all the wrong reasons sadly.
Popular side since '03.

When did we play Bristol Rovers at home? We played them a couple of years ago at their place and won 0 - 2 but I can’t recall them being up here.

As a big critic of Paul Casson his intentions were good but in all honesty he did not have the time to manage the Project.
In all honesty if we get promoted he should be asked to take part in any celebrations along with the Keens and some of the supporters who have done alot of voluntary work Elaine being one i know
