What a finish!, like all good teams we kept going at them, yes dubious penalty but we deserved the break!
That has to be one of the most outstanding pieces of goalkeeping I have had the pleasure to witness well done lads! :scarf:

Right alongside it. Cooky tried and failed to get in front of the defender and went down under a challenge with less impact than a soft shoulder to shoulder. Absolutely astounded when the ref pointed to the spot. Cooky then proceeds to take the penalty whilst the keeper was still walking backwards to his line !! Saying that and although a load of wrongs don't make a right, how many times over the years have we been on the end of an appauling decision at the end of a game? Things which have historically been our downfall continue to go our way such as today and holding on at Guiseley when in the past we would have collapsed. Certainly looks like the tide may be turning. 3 massive games coming up and 7 pts from those plus a win at Hyde could almost see it being ours to lose.

Just had a thought, didn't they get a really dodgy penalty last year to get a draw in that 4-4 draw?

Pretty sure you are right there. Maybe the old saying about these things evening themselves out are true?

After the result on the opening day and today's performance we probably owed them that.

Didn't Edmo have keeper Joel Dixon on loan at Wukkie, and he said something on RC about him being assessed today.
Looked a very competent keeper and definitely saved Boston from hammering today

Disgusting tackle for the penalty in fact I would call it assault.
Then it was brilliantly put away by cooky against the time wasting keeper.
Fair result against a horrible team with a thieving criminal benefit cheat of a manager.

In a game where there were chances a plenty, it was Barrow who came away with the spoils. Boston took the game to Barrow in the opening fifteen minutes but resolute defending stood us in good stead.
We grew into the game as the half progressed and on another day we would of found ourselves going into the break in front. As it was it ended goalless and you started to relive our visit to Boston on the opening day of the season when various things contrived against us!

The second half Boston had decided to sit a little deeper and see what they could pick off on the counter and it nearly worked for them with both strikers squandering golden opportunities and Barrow also failing to convert the chances that came their way. Reid replaced Pilkington who crumbled in a heap wide out after an innocuous coming together.

The inclusion of Ellison as sub seemed to give us added impetus and he was unlucky with a header within a minute of his arrival. It was Boston that had the luck on the opening day but it was our turn today with a well executed penalty by Andy Cook beating a keeper that looked unbeatable.

So on the plus side we remain top of the league with three important points but injuries to Pilkington and Walker are a big concern. The team as a whole but especially the midfield today worked tirelessly, and an enforced change put ARH out wide and that is what won the game for us in my view.

Sorry, I got it wrong it was Leeds United we had him on loan from. He played for us against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

Did Boston have a single shoot on target? How many saves did Dixon in the Boston goal actually make? At a guess Boston shoots on target 0, Dixon saves in double figures at least. Boston's outfield play was decent but Bobbie Moore says about the keeper...

Without him they would have lost not to a penalty but a flood of goals.

Yes, yes, yes and yes respectively.

I thought we played like Champions elect for the first time, everyone put a tremendous shift in and we created so many chances. Again another cracking game v Boston - great days at Fortress Holker St and I've always maintained you need a bit of luck to win anything and we seem to have that this season.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Think boyleigh watches a very different game from the rest. Surely one of the worse decisions in a while for the penalty. They all even up tho and we have been on the end of some naff ones. Referee was pretty good all round and the Pilgrims have an outstanding 'keeper. With another we would have been out of site by the break.
We probably played the best overall side in this division [Guiseley being the best footballing side], apart from ourselves. Proof today that we can mix it, keep at it, keep at them and eventually win. ARH was again outstanding in midfield. Just did not have the full outlet that Sheridan/Cowps can give.
Walker we hope will be OK but Pilks went down like a sack holding his leg [tendons gone methinks].
Overall good display...leave the negatives behind.
But the attendance was muffling. Where are all those who went to Sunderland/Middlesboro and Wembley with us. Know its the last weekend before Xmas but 1400 is paltry so come every1 get round these lads. They deserve more and so does this Club.

I got the impression that Boylie's comments were ironic!

Re the penalty, having watched it in video, I wonder if it was given as a push in the back rather than a shoulder charge. It seemed as tho the defender's forearm was in the middle of Cookie's back. Perhaps it looked even worse from where the ref was standing?

I thought that was a pretty good performance, and a deserved win against a decent Boston side. The big, big difference I saw was that the midfield operated like a cohesive unit for the first time in a while. I think Paddy Lacey deserves a special mention. He's a lad that divides opinion, and hasn't always done himself justice, but for me yesterday, particularly in the first half, he showed why Edmo has kept faith with him. His passing and vision, especially in the first half was terrific, the kind of assertive, solid centre-mid job we've been missing for some time. I thought ARH put in another good shift too, and his explosive runs visibly unsettled the opposition midfield. ARH has shown great attitude this season. Some on this forum were questioning his heart and commitment a few months ago, and he has answered that criticism in the best way possible.
Best game of footy I've seen at FBSS for months, top of the league at Christmas, and even the fickle mistress of good fortune seems to be, at least for now, on our side ....FOR A CHANGE. Onwards and upwards....
