A good season ...

Post by Colzi » Wed Feb 18, 2015 10:52 pm

As we enter the final straight it's so far so good with the odd slip up , would be a fair summary of the season in my opinion ! Still on for the title , and barring a collapse ( of which I can't see!) we will finish off in the playoffs . Our home form has been great, and away ok to good . I'd say if we had Wilson Pilks Reid fit all season then we would be clear at the top . because losing those 3 was/ is a major blow , given the amount goals and chances that those 3 would of created. GK 7/10 The main Gk in the sticks not as commanding as we would of liked but still some crucial saves . Defence - 7/10 Not had settled fullbacks through injury but 2 CB have been strong, just had no cover in front of them all season. Midfield - 7/10 overall good, been creating the chances in games for Jase and Cooke, but defence wise cut apart for long periods , no ball winners , CM is the engine room need a leader in the centre next season! Attackers - 8/10 Jase has scored goals and works his balls off! ( as the Fylde boss puts it!) and Cooke , never stops trying and his goals have come through wanting to smash the back of the net! Edmo - 7/10 had the cash spent it well , just Injury's too 3 key attackers was a blow, but that wasn't his fault. Downside was not getting someone in too break up play , I'd say 70% of our goals conceded have come from down the valley of the pitch! But we are 2nd and still chasing that title down. If not, playoffs of which we will have the 3 key attackers back and fully fit , in Wilson , Reid and Pilks! Fylde don't think the title is over, nor should we. Up the bluebirds! :flag:

Good first post but I do question the part about Pilks Reid and Wilson. Pilk's I agree with but haven't seen enough of Reid or Wilson to prove whether they are as good as people reckon
everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it

I think Wilson has done enough in the spells he's been fit to show what a good player he is, not forgetting his previous season where he ended up with a very decent haul.

Pilks has looked very good, again, when fit. He does seem to have more than his fair share of injury problems though.

Reid again looked really impressive early on in the season but another who has had a bad run of luck with injury.

If (if) we end up in the play-offs I'd feel a bit more confident than I did six weeks ago of going up through them.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

That's providing we finish second, so that assuming we win the 2 legged semi-final we're at home in the final.

So that's how it works then? Out of the two teams in the play off final the side that finished higher in the league is at home?

Pilks, direct causes havoc in the box, scores and creates , and his attitude is spot on. Reid, on his day excellent player quick skillfull can turn the oppositions blood, but does go missing for long periods . Wilson, I think the guy is class, strong quick 2 good feet can hold the ball up and bring others in. Also a cracking scorer, could of been reaching 20 by now if not injured! Ok u can argue that we wouldn't have sewn the title up already, but if all 3 were fit, then I'd say Bluebirds would be 6-9 pts at least better off! Anyways as it stands now , title still on, just no more slip ups from here on in! And if it is playoffs , no body would love too play Barrow at Barrow in front of 3 thousand bluebirds especially with fully fit Barrow team! Would be a special day! Either way it's going too a great time too be a Barrow fan, stadium plans , and a good team which will be improved on a yearly basis - one day Holker street will have 3 thousand fans singing " all bluebirds are blue " and I cannot wait for that day!

Yes, it has been like this for a number of seasons now. In fact Barrow v Stalybridge was the last CN final played that way. Think we only played at Burton that season because of Setanta TV, the following season the final was Fleetwood v Alfreton at Fleetwood. I believe that below this level it has been that way since the introduction of play-offs to non-league.

Worth noting that if we finish second we will play the 5th place team over two legs, finish 3rd we play 4th place team. Similar to when we played Telford and gained promotion, they were 2nd we were 5th. The only difference at this level is they no longer play the final at a neutral venue. In the final highest placed team has home advantage. After the last game on the Sat 25th April if we finished 2nd we would be away 4 days later on the Wed 29th April then home again 3 days later on Sat 2nd May. The final is a week after that on Sat 9th May.

See Conference Website for confirmation. Keep the 9th of May clear just in case. ;)

I agree with all you've said and I'm a huge fan of wilson, pilks, yet not so much reid been honest yet a huge fan of haworth class
and of them all wilson look's the man for me pure class he would of kept jase out of team imo as cookies been on fire.
Even if kirk and westem win game in hand it's only 4 points and if we don't slip up I'm fairly sure thay'll drop points ;)

Wilson was the biggest loss...we tried to maintain a title challenge with just two proper strikers who looked knackered most weeks

I know I should move on with the injury crisis that happened up front for the bluebirds, but one main point was we can't be harsh on Edmo, aim was, try and push for promotion by title or playoffs , and title is still on and I'm optimistic for the playoffs! Edmo had too gel a new team together , and in any division that is not easy, but I'd say well done Edmo so far, B+ !

I think we will continue to drop points, people for some reason think we are going to win every remaining game.

Countless times we've scraped wins, how many times have we (cooky) scored late winners in unconvincing performances?

We arent that good, people need to realise this, we conceded 4 goals against Hyde for christs sake.

This is pretty much where I am too.

We actually aren't that good and have been mostly unconvincing all season. Some would have us believe that its a strong league this season and point to the fact that how tight it is at the top is evidence of this, the reality is the opposite and if there was a consistently good side in the league they'd have run away with it this season.

That said, I do look at the players we've got and think we should be a much better side than we've shown, its easily the best squad in the league on paper so you have to wonder why it hasn't quite clicked

That is the problem we cant afford another defeat we had our chance when Fylde went on a losing streak but a draw against Tamworth and defeat to Solihull have almost certainly killed our chances of winning it.

I remain optimistic we can still do it but we need favours.
