awards
Re: awards
A remarkable record.
Unfortunately most of the dedication to her was chanted over by a handful on the popular side.
As for the Clubman award I don't know whether this year's recipient is an employee or not but don't see why an employee who puts extra into their work shouldn't receive such an award.

Hear, Hear, Thanks Margaret for everything you have done over the yearsHolkerbird wrote:The top award surely went to Margaret Cooksey.
At long last her services were recognised and she was made a Life Member.
People like her have been the life blood of the club working tirelessly behind the scenes over many years giving of both time and money when most needed without looking for any reward.
Well done Margaret Cooksey and THANK YOU.

To be honest you couldn't really hear the tanoy from the corner we were stood in, even when there wasn't any chanting.Hadrian wrote:A remarkable record.

Re: awards
To be fair, over on the Pop Side it was quite difficult to tell what was going on in front of the stand. I don't recall that it was prefaced by an announcement over the tannoy. At first I thought it was some sort of recognition for Brian Keen. Worked it out in the end so well done and many thanks to Margaret Cooksey. It is, indeed, people like her that keep clubs going.Hadrian wrote:A remarkable record.

Re: awards
Can't really add to what others have already said about Margaret Cooksey, except to say that recognition for her services to the club is well deserved.

Re: awards
I had no idea a presentation was going on on the pitch..but what I do know is that many of who might have been 'chanting over'
anything think the world of Margaret Cooksey and that award is very, very well deserved.
Well done Margaret

Re: awards
I absolutely agree, but her services should have been recognised by the previous BOD, Margaret was ripped off by the Scouse Scumbag.Steelworks End wrote:Can't really add to what others have already said about Margaret Cooksey, except to say that recognition for her services to the club is well deserved.
I know it wasn't the fault of the previous BOD but it wouldn't have cost them a penny to recognise her services

Re: awards
Let's not get into that. She has had her time in the sun and was very happy that both Brian and Paul did the honours.

SUPER HOSTESS MARGARET IS TO CALL IT A DAY
From the Barrow v North Ferriby United programme
There is more to making an impression in football than what goes on on-the-field.
Margaret Cooksey plays her part in making sure that Barrow AFC are the perfect hosts to visiting directors. She serves the meals to the officials of the visiting clubs in the special hospitality room under the grandstand. But after doing it for 19 years, that era will end this coming Saturday when Tamworth are the visitors.
While she praises the assistance she gets from Bluebirds stalwart fan Sid Blain, she says the work is now getting just too much for her. It means leaving home at 12.45pm to set out the tables and then serving the meal at around 2pm – the Stockport directors’ party had a choice between fish pie and steak pie at our last home game. Plates, cups and saucers all need washing and drying before she goes out to watch the game at 3pm but is back on hostess duties five minutes before half-time to get the kettle on for cups of tea during the interval. Then she has to be ready to serve tea and sandwiches after the final whistle. That means it is well after 5pm before she can stand down.
“I love doing it because I love meeting people,” she says. “Most of the visitors are appreciative of what we do – but you always get exceptions. The trouble is that it is getting too much for me now.”
She cannot remember how she got the job but believes it could have stemmed from the time when she was made a director after helping out the club following the death of her husband Stan. Margaret used to follow the Netherfield club when Stan was playing for them and she still has the three ten shilling notes he was given for scoring a hat-trick. Once Stan’s playing career was over they both supported Barrow – and Margaret, who loves sport, is also a Barrow RL fan.
