AFC Fylde aren't a new club, they were originally Kirkham & Wesham FC who the season before the name change won the FA Vase. Kirkham & Wesham has been around for years and its only now a local business man who has interest in the local area has taken over that AFC Fylde have started to progress.

Most on this board already know your club is really Kirkham & Wesham FC and so do the locals in the Fylde area. That is why your gates will not likely continue to grow as fast as you really need it to. Your new ground will likely boost the figure a bit, that kind of development always does but unless your gates get into the thousands and fast your going to be spending hand over fist in the league above. Barrow already has a decent fan base and has a significant number of people turn out for big occasions as the 2758 gate showed the other day. It will be very interesting how many turn out on Saturday for your potential promotion party. If you get 4 figures it will be outstanding, your big games so far this season have all been boosted by mass number of away fans.

Erm... New Mill Farm ground costing how many millions and £85000+ just to stay at this level or gain promotion this season. Don't kid yourself that the few hunderd coming through the turnstiles are paying for the squad you have and the ground developments. Your beginning to sound like a number of Fleetwood fans from a few years ago that flatly denied that their club was being bank rolled. Crawley fans were the same when their newly banked money left to them by a fan paid for an effective league 1 squad to get them into the football league.

the club isn't over paying players, and the stability of the club is looking sound.

Numerous clubs have stated they couldn't compete with Fylde's offer when going after a player. What about Baker? Your chairman stated they failed to sign him in the summer because Stockport offered more. When you did sign him from Stockport the chairman denied he took a pay cut to join them so it you must be paying more than you could originally afford. He might be trying to keep the wage bill down but he is slowly spending more.

Some of your players will have dropped to Fylde's level to become part of the vision your chairman has put forward but they won't be going without their pay for the benefit. You have conference national and league 2 players in your squad, players that have joined you expecting to go back to that level, so do we. Like Barrow you will have a core of players on more normal wages but your star players the ones making the clubs progress possible will be on more. Enough to stop them going elsewhere, why do you think they have joined such a small club. I'm pretty sure they are not all local lads.

On the gates Fylde get all this spending is bad business unless the owner is pumping in the money. Money has been a hot topic at Barrow for years as we have had very little and we are very well aware of the finances needed to compete and stay in the league above. If you don't pay you don't keep your players. Not only that top of conference North is full of big payers for this level of football, some more than others. If you want to know what happens to a club in Barrow or Fylde's position when it's money man walks away or stops paying, Google Stephen Vaughan in connection with Barrow or Chester City. Barrow could go the same way again if our chairman pulled out but we trust him, Fylde are the same way, enjoy the moment just please don't be blind to what your club is actually doing. Fylde are not on sound ground by any stretch of the imagination it could end over night and for many clubs like it, it does.

note that the millions being spent at mill farm includes several other things, the ground itself is only part of the development - for instance there's a distribution centre building (for a firm that is moving from poulton) that is bigger than the ground - the chairman has stated that he wants the whole thing to be sustainable (of course no-one knows if that will eventually happen or if he might get the chance to take over at blackpool fc and what would happen then)

i expect barrow to win on saturday, one problem will be for whoever misses out, that the play-offs will follow very quickly and it might be difficult to lift the players who will be disappointed to have missed out on automatic promotion

Looking at the Fylde forum they are trying to arrange a promotion party incase they win the league.

One fan has suggested a pub where the landlord is putting on free chips for them. Personally i'd of thought on of the bar in the ground would of been ideal for them. 10 of them would fit in there comfortably

The funny thing is the fans of such clubs, that convince themselves their club is not spending much more than it was before their new benefactor arrived. They sound so convinced that money has nothing to do with their new found success. Every club seems to have them.

I'd like to think the difference at Barrow is, we know and accept that we are being bankrolled (with a budget) and we will be spending above the our income for a while. After all when the offer came along we listened to the idea then signed up on mass. ...or at least that's what I thought happened, maybe I've got my head in the sand.

Enough to edit the Barrow AFC wikipedia page, change the chairman's name (& add a link to a face book page), change kit colours and replace the introduction with "Forever in the shadow of Fylde". Although the intro has been put back. Know anything about that TheDarkLord?

The word 'Fear' springs to mind...they are obviously very interested in US.
Who knows , next season we might even get some of their 'floating' fans cheering us on in the Conference Premier? The phrase 'Glory Hunters' springs to mind.
