Poor result on Saturday for Grimsby against one of the teams likely to struggle this season

Are they?! Genuine question. I always think Kiddy will be challenging for play off places, year after year.

Budget has been cut massively AB and they didn't have a great season last season.

Kiddy started really well last season unbeaten in 7 then over the course of the season it fell apart with off the field problems effecting things, among them the club was running out of money. The fans even raised money to pay for the players. I believe they have avoided having to go part-time but the budget has been slashed, some of the fans seemed to think they were heading out of the division the wrong way toward the end with only 3 wins in the last 20 games but they managed 16th. Their chairman resigned. They have had to rebuild with players leaving so they are not same side, lots of rhetoric from the management about them being competitive but on a tight budget.

Grimsby after two mediocre seasons have been in the play-offs for the last 3 seasons, getting closer and stronger each season. Given their summer additions I expect them to be up their again and quite possibly champions.

Looking at last Saturday on paper Grimsby should have stuffed Kiddy, but they didn't, instead they conceded in added time for 2-2. Opening day nerves or maybe Kiddy are better than expected, at least on their own patch. If Grimsby are the team we've seen from previous seasons then Saturday was likely a glitch and we'll get the real thing later on tonight, this is easily the hardest game of the season. Well on paper anyway.

Grimsby are a good team with a cracking budget to hand. They have made the playoffs the last 3 seasons (3rd, 4th & 4th), and I imagine they'll do the same again this season.

I'm sadly expecting a defeat, but you never know in football. We need a good start and if we can clinch the first goal of the game, you never know.

My prediction, Grimsby 2 (Amond, Disley) Barrow 1 (Cook). Hopefully it'll be a good entertaining game and we can get over Saturday's hiccup.

Id take a point, i wasnt too impressed by us on saturday and thought Cooky earnt us the points, fingers crossed we can defend well as i always fancy us to get a goal.
