The "revenge" must be a good one then.......it's been 28 years (and counting) in the making

Glad others have mentioned the Boston game, forgot about adding that to my previous post. What an afternoon!! even if our mini bus driver ended up heading towards the NE on the way home (pre sat nav days of course)
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Friday 9th May 2008 the Conference North play off final and Matt Henney's goal to beat Stalybridge Celtic 1-0 at Burton Albion's Perrelli Stadium.
What a superb atmosphere and night.

All these are of course eclipsed by the two great Wembley wins of 1990 & 2010.
How were two Wembley finals, a play off final and a promotion clincher 'unexpected' good days out?
Because nobody expected them at the start of the season.

Does anyone remember the game at Middlesbrough a little while ago? I can't recall the chap who scored the goals name but we nearly won after that!

Only really that and Sunderland stick out for me. Unfashionable places but I had a great time.

Alfono Alves scored both of theirs, Jason Walker got ours a couple of minutes from the end.

And just how cold was Sunderland! Through to the bones.

2001 (?) away at Oldham in the FA Cup. Holty scoring after three minutes. Incredible Barrovian Bedlam atmosphere, a packed - out end at Boundary Park and a brilliant day out.

Colder than a very cold thing. I remember everyone picking their way over 1" thick ice on the Wear Bridge to get to the Stadium. The pitch was fine but that match must have been close to being postponed because of unsafe logistics.

It was Steve Housham that scored.

Worst away day - Frickley Athletic, 1984 either FA Cup or Trophy, can't remember. We were heading towards the NPL championship with Vic Halom at the helm, and a team full of great players. Frickey were (amazingly) a mid-table Conference outfit at the time, but we were gonna turn 'em over. Nothing went to plan - we were 4-0 down before we got off the bus, torn to shreds by their pacy wingers and despite a late rally we lost 5-2. We were given a lesson in attacking football. To add salt to the wound there were ugly scenes on the terraces, as a small group of JCL knuckle-draggers embarrassed the town. One to forget, but you never do....

Stevenage Borough 1, Barrow 2.

No, not that one. Back in the 1998/99 season in the wake of the Vaughan abandonment of the club and the going into administration. Don't remember the exact date, but it must have been Feb/March. No-one really gave us much of a chance at Stevenage, they were top 6, we were struggling, and when they went one up, you'd think that would be about it. But no, though those were the Shane Westley days of, um, intensively direct football shall we say (you must remember launch-the-ball-into-the-far-corner-from-kickoff?), we actually replied with two well-worked goals - both very similar in the approach play, one, maybe both scored by (Ian?) Foster. Brilliant! I don't think I walked, I floated over all those concrete footbridges on the way back to the station, with a massive grin on my face.

Gave us hope that we could finish outside the bottom three - which, of course, we did, at Kidderminster on the final day; another brilliant away day, although we knew that the administration was pretty much certain to doom us to the NPL the following season.

Forgot about that one, that's up there too. Ian Foster and Brian Dawson got the goals.

No it was definitely Housham. Holt broke into the box I think, got tackled and the loose ball fell to Housham who scuffed it into the bottom corner.

How about this one. Redditch United 1 Barrow 3 (Alliance Premier League) 1979

First year of the Conference. Redditch and Barrow bottom two. Went with mate from Uni and arrived a ground after several pints of Banks best bitter.

Weather crap, football terrible, Barrow 1 down with not long to go. 200 in the ground so the two of us stood actually on the pitch leaning over the fence freezing our nuts off. With bugger all time left Barrow went ballistic and scored three (Cowps I think scored 1 if not 2 of them). Kevin Thomas in Barrow goal was so overjoyed on the second that he ran behind the goal and the three of us did man hugs.

This win triggered a revival which took us to safety that season. Classic.
