Considering the vitriol the club and some players face, an evening of fan / player back slapping would be a tad hypocritical and probably unwanted. Maybe that's why it's more low key? No criticism of anyone's right to their opinion and a lot of it is fair but you can't fart in a sleeping bag and expect a Boris Johnson.

Sounds like the usual 15min shambles we've become accustomed to. Should be starting around 7pm, charge a small fee and have a light supper (pie and peas would do!) just to make it feel like more of an event; and as for holding it when the season is still on going............

To be fair, a joint event set-up between the Trust & club was spoken about at a recent Trust meeting, and that was to hold the event after the Wrexham game. I mentioned this with the club and even though everyone seemed to think this was a good idea it was simply too short notice to organise & charge for.

Another sticking point was how we could stop people coming into the bar from the corporates as it hadn't been advertised, add to that the sheer amount of people who are expected with it being Wrexham and obviously the last game and it just had all the ingredients for it not working or worse, being a total disaster.

I'm fairly certain that the club will look at doing a joint event next season with the Trust & it being advertised from the moment the new seasons fixtures are announced as an awards evening (closed bar, food, players staying, ticketed etc)

Could do a kit launch night and the end of season awards in one. Raise tonnes of funds like the rugby do. Instead the club decides to rush a job for half an hour after a game.

Indeed - you sit down at regular intervals and plan the next year's worth of events and work backwards from there.

Christmas stock - aim to have it in the shop first week of December, lead times are 4-6 weeks (example), so you know it has to be ordered mid-October. Therefore in September you look at design options, analyse previous years sales data (I know, I know...) and work out what you can be ordering. Or, wait til the 2nd week of December and after telling the 50th person that no, we don't have any stock in, decide to get some naff polos made from bangladeshisweatshop.com/rags because SURPRISE UPON REVELATION Christmas is happening again, almost a year after the last time it happened.

End of year do - set the date at the end of the season, work with caterers/event planners etc to get time scales and work backwards from there.

New kits, floats at the carnival, announcing ticket prices and anything else we've done in a half arsed manner over the years etc etc. It's not rocket surgery, all you need is a calendar and a bit of gumption.

Its all a learning curve though. Rhyl wasn't built in 24 hours.

Dave, a former member of this forum, I know exactly what you are both saying & pretty much agree, all I can say in the clubs defence (and this isn't as a director, just my own personal opinion) is the people involved at the club after last seasons title winning game had to virtually start from scratch....renewing contracts, ending contracts, organising the step up from P/T to F/T, getting work done on the X Bar, the X Bar roof, sorting the floodlights to meet H&S requirements, new pitch laid, all the up-grade in equipment to look after the new pitch....I could go on and on but these are the facts so looking at the fixture list in August 2015 for the players presentation in April 2016 might not have been given the attention it deserved.
I know what I say will get picked to death with answers of what could've & should've been done but that is honestly how I see it.

I'll say (promise) right now that I will definitely bring this up with the BoDs & Emma (as soon as she gets settled in) for the 2016-17 season with hopefully the Trust being involved as well so we can all make it a better organised event for next year.

Sorry Ian, I love you to bits but...

Im assuming the contracts for the players would have been sorted out before the season started. The Cross Bar was finished off months ago. Not sure about the floodlight work and if that is still ongoing but they have been up and running all season so I don't understand how an hour can't be put aside to sort things like the end of season do out.

I can imagine that there is a lot to be done running a football club before the season starts. I just can't see staff rushed off their feet at the club at 2:30 on a wednesday afternoon when there hasn't been a game in a while buried in newly delivered stock, frantically trying to shelve new merchandise whilst fending off phone calls and emails . I have seen in person that there is a lot of downtime at the clubs offices ( remarkable when thinking about how many calls and emails go unanswered) surely there has been an hour available over the last 6 or so months to discuss options for the end of season do.

Like Dave said about Christmas the club must have made a massive loss. All the games that were off and nothing happening at the club to bring any sort of income in. Xmas is huge to every business whether you run a restaurant or own a corner shop. There are so many avenues to go down to bring in custom , get people buying christmas presents for loved ones, ticket deals , events in the crossbar, meet the players, barrow afc player signed xmas cards (£20) , pin the tail on Barrow Aberdeen, its endless!

Like the opportunities at Christmas ,The end of season awards have clearly been forgotten about and hastily put together at the last minute.

What about next season kit and stock are we going to get them on sale before the season ends so people can buy for the summer.

The poor lass has so much to sort out when she starts at the end of the season.
