Would this be a viable alternative to redeveloping Holker Street
Would this be a viable alternative to redeveloping Holker Street
Put emotional attachment aside, Sell Holker Street, Sell Craven Park..... and move together to Salthouse Mills.
Pro's- Ready to develop brownfield site, no Holker Street planning headaches, re-juvenate regeneration in that area, create jobs, sports village, training facilities, all the onsite parking you need. Basically a platform for success for both the football and rugby clubs and the crown jewel of any future waterfront development. Could include a rail station stop, and attract additonal investment for many other facilities, hotels, waterfront bars, etc etc. A true lasting legacy for the town. Barrow is a town with massive investment coming and this would enhance all of this.
Well?

Nothing wrong with the idea John, but personally I don't want to share with the rugby just for the sake of the pitch with the British climate as it is.My opinion, if we are to move forward as a club we do it on our own.I can't think of one pitch that has stood the test of football/rugby sharing.

I don't think we need an alternative, we just need to get on with it.

No not bored at all, Just trying to generate some healthy debate on the subject. It's always rubbished as too hard to do or "leave Holker Street and share with the rugby- no chance". As for the pitch issue. Modern pitch technology is revolutionising the amount of hammer pitches can take. Artificial surface.Do we really want that ?
Re: Would this be a viable alternative to redeveloping Holker Street
Nick it's 100% grass reinforced by artificial fibres, it still grows, still needs cutting. Your argument has been superseded by technology.

Re: Would this be a viable alternative to redeveloping Holker Street
1-0 to you John.Has it been accepted in the football league.?
Re: Would this be a viable alternative to redeveloping Holker Street
Bristol Rovers Pipped us to best playing surface/groundsman of the season in 2015 with a Desso pitch!
If moving was the best option after all other avenues were explored it wouldn't bother me but I think there are possibly better options closer. They would also have to build a thirty foot high wall around it at the mills site to keep the pyromaniacs out as they have almost nightly ritual burnings there at the minute!

Well many top flight clubs use them and played on in today's FA cup final. There's a vid in that link in my post above to see how it all works.
