Re: Elliot Newby
I think that it was clear Cook was going before he actually signed for Tranmere so both PCs would've known they needed a replacement. Hannah may have been sought as a partner for Cook originally - I don't know. The only doubt I have is that the big forward/small forward combination would still have been possible with Bennett (Harrison I think was recruited afterwards) But PC has chosen not to use it unless the conditions are unusual (e.g. Sutton where the 3G pitch suggested favoured a smaller more mobile striker or on some occasions where the pitch has been particularly narrow).
This suggests that PC prefers to play on a wider pitch with wingers feeding taller strikers. Ross wouldn't fit this shape hence he tends to be introduced as a sub for whatever reason to change the style and shape. I cant believe that he was brought in with that as the plan.

Re: Elliot Newby
I'm not sure why there's the constant questioning about Ross Hannah and why he's not in the team. If I'm right he missed the first game with suspension from pre-season? Since then Harrison and Bennett have formed a decent partnership, scored goals, their all round game has improved particularly Bennett and his hold up play. We are 4th in the league so there can't be too many complaints.
At times I think Hannah maybe should have been given a little longer from the bench, one being against Gateshead the other day but he'll get his chance as will Panayoiutou when injuries/suspensions/tiredness creep in. So far he's looked enthusiastic and lively when playing, but neither Bennett or Harrison have done anything to warrant being dropped. The good thing is we have different types of forwards now and as the season goes on we will need to utilise them more.
As for Newby he's still young but from what I've seen, physically as much as anything, he's not ready for this level of football yet. He needs to be playing regularly and gaining experience, he wont get that here so makes sense to go on loan again.

Re: Elliot Newby
I fully understand that the reasons for forums like this is to allow people to comment on any subject they wish to. The problem is that some posters do not have much of a clue about football, even though they have probably attended plenty of matches.
The Elliot Newby situation is case in point, there is no way in the world at this moment that he is good enough to be in Barrow's starting 16 never mind in the first 11. While we are at this level of football this will remain the case. While on loan at Wukkie (who are two steps below us) he has not been a regular starter, so to think recalling him would strengthen our current squad is total [SwearFilter]!!
As PC has said on a number of occasions, its quality not quantity that is needed to add to the squad, players who can improve our team and help us push on in the second half of the season, l'm sure he will have players lined up to come in and if we can progress in the FA Cup then the better the quality will be. Unfortunately Elliot Newby is not of that quality and being 'local' should not be part of the reason for bringing him back

Re: Elliot Newby
Fair comment there from 67.
However, Elliot has time on his side and most of us will remember a local lad called Jason Walker spending a lot of time on the bench. He bided his time and seized his opportunity when it came along eventually becoming something of a legend at the club of course.

Re: Elliot Newby
Elliot started 90% of his games for us and has probably been our best player throughout his loan spell. Sad to see him leave. Best of luck to him at Alty

Re: Elliot Newby
Weird this.
Weve signed a keeper from a few leagues down who has been on trials with league clubs and theres no qualms about him being ready.
Elliott was at Bolton and played u18s and reserve level but is apparantly not experienced enough.

Who's saying that this new keeper is ready? He's probably brought in as cover for Coughlin. The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote:Weird this.

Probably time for a new start for Elliot, having become the forgotten man at Barrow. And it looks like Alty will cherish him as an asset!

Re: Elliot Newby
I think he has potential and has scored at this level for us just not sure he could flourish in a Cox team so for footballing reasons he would be mad not to establish himself there to work his way back up the football pyramid.
Shame hopefully this U21 team comes about soon but with first team training nowhere near Barrow apart from lancs cup games I dont see a path for locals to get into our squad.

I think Cox will keep him assuming he does not leave himself.barrowfan_chris wrote:I think he has potential and has scored at this level for us just not sure he could flourish in a Cox team so for footballing reasons he would be mad not to establish himself there to work his way back up the football pyramid.

It's obvious the way the season has gone he will look to cut next season's players budget and i assume lower paid players will be kept on.

Re: Elliot Newby
I hope hes kept on, I like him. There is definitely a decent player in there.
You've got to ask yourself though if he would still be signed on with us if he was from anywhere else in the country. I think the fact he is from Barrow means that in the past hes been useful for local activities.

Re: Elliot Newby
Never really been given a proper chance by Edmo or Cox, hope the lad does well although i think he's far too good for the npl.
