As a player he was a proper centre half, big strong and took no prisoners. If he takes the same attitude into management then I'll be happy. Being based in Lytham is a bonus as it's handy for training and coming to Barrow

I’ve been monitoring the BFC/oyston saga for the last 12 months and Ian has made many appearances at their trust Meetings. Wrote many statements warning fans off spending money in oyston owned properties and steered fans away from the club whilst they still own it this is known as NAPM (not a penny more) having seen him present himself well and also heard his aspirations to play a bit too. I’m really excited by this appointment just the man we need to give AC the kick up hos backside aswell. All pulling in the same direction this season.

He will be given a chance by the supporters , the owner needs to be open and transparent with him. no false promises.
Spell out the. budget ,give him realistic objectives and if we stay up the fans will be happy and a run in the cup will please all and give the owner some money back

Good luck to the fella but I have deep reservations about the club's decision to employ somebody who has no experience of managing a football club (he's been a caretaker manager briefly at Chesterfield).

His playing career indicates a man who will have many contacts in the game. I also salute his comments regarding the team playing attacking football next season. However; his lack of managerial experience doesn't bode well with me and I reckon his limited experience is the reason why he got the job - the Cassons won't have to fork out the kind of wages the others on their short list would have demanded. The appointment doesn't fill me with any optimism at all. I hope I'm proved wrong...

McEvoy,Appleton,Halom,Bayliss,Sheridan - barely a minutes managerial experience between them - arguably five of our top six managers over the last 50 or so years. Nothing more to be said.

He certainly comes with a lot of warm words from Chesterfield fans who clearly rate him highly. Their view seems to be that he'll have to be a player/manager because he won't find anyone better than himself to play in the centre of defence at this level. I hope it is an inspired choice.
