I actually wrote the on-going match report for this game for the Evening Mail and got some very fierce looks from a number of people in their clubhouse (where the telephone was situated) when I described the state of the pitch. The following day we played at the Meadowbank Stadium against Meadowbank Thistle and came back from being 2-0 down to win 3-2. My claim to fame on that occassion was eating a scotch pie in what was then the Royal Box

I've played football there! Mind blowing.
Armadale, I mean. Buggered up the quote/post thing.

No.

All that crew faded away after the league days and to be honest very few of them were 'real' supporters but just there for the rucks. I know most of the faces in that photograph and I think one of them still goes to Holker Street, and indeed gets in for nothing! Some are deceased now of course and one rather rumbustious individual in the pic became a lay preacher in Australia. Praise the Lord!

I remember going to Gretna Green for a F.A.cup match which was strange.

The end of Thomson and Liddell’s Barrow career’s all seem to go hand in hand with the fate the club faced over the next few seasons. The style of reporting all read and feel like what they are - nearly 50 years ago. Sad stories to read.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.
