Over 20% of the cases were in India, but nobody suggested banning travel to India, or group gatherings in India, or screening arrivals in UK from India.
Corona seems much the same as flu, the only difference at present is that there is no available vaccination against it for the elderly and most vulnerable. I was working in the NHS when swine flu was all the rage: there was a lot of fuss about it at the time and I always suspected it wouldn't come to anything.
I think the media like things like this because they can fill a lot of airtime or newsprint. Also, they love wheeling out analysts and pundits to give their forecast (speculation) about the doom it will bring. And of course a lot of media people have been short of a topic since Brexit was sorted![]()

Of course masks work in making you look very silly, no good in stopping cross contamination whatsoever though!

Whilst I agre to some extent that the media is going overboard, if they didn't mention it and there was a real epidemic they would be accused of not spreading the word. Damned if the they do, and damned if they don't.

Sometimes the establishment is also as guilty by not providing enough paper towels to dry your hands.
I am sure our club is on top of this situation but perhaps it's something for them to bear in mind!

Re: Corona
Opinions on whether the news of this virus is over stated, the death rates over hyped or the protection measures effective are irrelevant. My worry is simply what decisions the government will make and if those decisions spoil our season. Banning large public gatherings is a distinct possibility and so postponing the end of this season isn't impossible. The time to worry about what decisions may be made is when all of the ITU beds and temporary high dependency pods are all taken or the infection rates become rife within NHS staff.

I take your point but if that becomes a possibility I think they are talking about playing games behind closed doors rather than not playing them.Sefton Aubergine wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 10:38 am My worry is simply what decisions the government will make and if those decisions spoil our season. We are also so close to the end of the football season at whatever level, that I am sure the football authorities would try to put forward the case for that.
Not ideal, but I think that media would be allowed in to report on them.

Yes you are correct, apparently the prem league and fa have discussed this and we wait to see what happens.barrowfan wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 10:58 amI take your point but if that becomes a possibility I think they are talking about playing games behind closed doors rather than not playing them.Sefton Aubergine wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 10:38 am My worry is simply what decisions the government will make and if those decisions spoil our season. Ok for multi million pound money generating clubs but for us it would be a massive loss.. I've paid my dues and in worse case scenario, the club can keep my money!

Re: Corona
The government "plans" have a range including a worst case of one in five being infected. We could end up with millions self isolating including playing staff, club officials and medical staff who if not infected will be needed elsewhere. You can't play a fixture without medical staff present.

I’ve mentioned this before but the state of the portaloos at times suggests a good number of our patrons aren’t properly housetrained.barrowfan wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 10:36 am

I hope the club acknowledges this and introduces a stringent ‘no scruffs’ policy as and when Public Health England advice dictates.
Re: Corona
we just need to change out holker street walk out song to *Panic on the streets* by the Smiths. The government can control large populations via fear. France is worse affected and its only gatherings over 5000 which they are putting restricitons on, Seria A are playing behind closed doors. I cant see it affecting non league

It’ll come down to what will the government class as a large gathering. Will it be 1000 people or will it be 10,000 people.

More to it than that I'm afraid... I'll say again the risk is having all medics pulled away from any public events which will be cancelled.AugustusCorpa wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 12:19 pm It’ll come down to what will the government class as a large gathering. Re: Corona
I agree. A multitude of problems could be on the horizon. It’s annoying the hell out of me. Couldn’t give a monkeys about actually catching the virus.
