1. It's absolutely not the flu, it's more dangerous.
2. People can be asymptomatic and be spreading it for weeks.
3. It can be picked up from many different surfaces, not just via coughs and sneezing.
4. Not taking it seriously is to not care for your, or others' older parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents etc, and so is chronically, abhorrently selfish.
5. A lot of the numbers from other countries are massive underestimates of actual numbers, most notably in where we heard of it first.
6. The numbers (despite their questionable validity) will grow in the next week or two, and probably keep growing for God knows how long.

Don't underestimate this. Better safe than sorry. Be careful what you touch, be careful of people in your face.

Exactly and you'll still get the "I'm alright Jack" brigade showing their abstinence. If people ignore, the danger is tens of thousands of patients needing ITU or HDU beds, there are 4,500 nationally but with staffing issues and the government is being very slow to develop wards or clinics into units and to find the staff for such units. I retired from a long career working in operating theatres 6 months ago. I still have my pin number for another 12 months. I am airway trained, ventilator trained and I still have qualifications such as ALS (look it up) and have I been contacted to help out?

I'm confident we'll be in some kind of "lockdown" similar to Italy within a month.

I hope the general public recognise the poor leadership and decisions being made by this victorian values goverment. When it does get bad it was not any fault of health workers at any grade.

I watched the whole live TV broadcast of the press conference from Downing Street yesterday and i was impressed by the presentation from Boris and the two senior NHS and Scientific advisors. I thought it was a sensible and measured response, especially the reasons why closing down sports events and schools won't make a significant difference to the problem.

Each to his or her own opinion, of course, but I was reassured that the Government knew what it was doing and was making the right decisions.

Incidentally, I am in a high risk category and an asthmatic aged 70+.

Their lack of action and preparation within the Hospital setting is a disgrace that will cost many more lives than it should. We will not have enough ITU beds.

I listened to it on 5Live Jim and was also impressed by the way that Boris let the medical people answer the questions which they did in a thorough and professional manner.

We have people dying and it is not a time to be trying to make political capital.

It never fails to amaze me that when something important crops up in this town all the knowall experts crawl out of the woodwork to express their so called professional advice on the matter. By all means pass your opinion as to whether the matches should be called off but keep your political and medical comments out of this forum unless you have the medical degrees necessary to express a knowledgeable comment.

The Government is acting on scientific advice. Had they ignored that advice, you might have cause to criticise them.
