Maximum diplomatic and economic pressure must be applied to China to force them to shut down wet markets and outlaw consumption of exotic species that may be carriers of similar diseases.

It's sickening and they can no longer plead ignorance about the risk these markets pose to global health. All western countries should increase tariffs on all Chinese imports by 10% and increase them by a further 10% every 6 months until they close these places down.xerxes wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 1:25 pmhttps://spectator.us/time-ban-wet-marke ... 226f085f8eElectricblues wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 10:46 am

How would that work? All major European and US companies rely on the Chinese market (not to mention their cheap labour)!

That's why I early referred to returning industry back to the west. We used to get by manufacturing things here. Did it benefit the British people to see all that industry disappear along with all the jobs just so we could get something of inferior quality at a cheaper price? I'd rather see those industries either returned or set up in slightly more liberal countries like India, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan etc.Moribund wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 2:19 pmElectricblues wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 1:57 pm

Living standards in India have improved a great deal in recent years. It's not perfect but better than China. At least it's not a totalitarian state.Forde wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 3:53 pmYeah because there is definitely no sweat shops in places like India.Electricblues wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 3:13 pm

World Bank statistics on poverty have India poverty at 68.8% of the population. China currently at 0.7% of the population.
In fact, there are many articles and studies on China's huge reduction in poverty and increase in living standards. With regards to living wage - Living cost, China currently has a better standard than us here in the UK. The stereotype of the 1980's/90's of it being all sweat shops is much a thing of the past.
Democracy wise, nearly all international bodies consider India a 'flawed democracy' with a centralised and corrupt election process where power is basically just handed down.

It may well be flawed but it's a million miles nearer being a democracy than China.Forde wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 7:22 pmElectricblues wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 4:35 pm

Re: Corona
Wrexham have furloughed all staff and players after admitting the coronavirus crisis is a threat to the continued existence off the club, so if they can do it we must follow, if the players are getting 80% of wages just keep fit and see it out until we start playing again.behind the goals wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 8:34 pm Will the 80% of all salaries you can claim to the government apply to players and staff at Barrow AFC, an employee is an individual employed under a contract of employment,so is there anyone from the Club who can confirm we will be applying if we can be awarded it, it will make the enforced break easier to manager.

Of course China's poverty has decreased. It has taken half of our industry. You might consider India a flawed democracy it's still more democratic that the EU and at least it is not a one party state that puts Muslims in concentration camps like China is.Forde wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 7:22 pmElectricblues wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 4:35 pm

Re: Corona
First. The mega rich Premier League, are desperate to finish the season, coming up with all sorts of schemes, while the players sit on their millions. Nearer home, my club Wrexham have asked all staff, players, management team, and all non playing employees, to take advantage of the government furlough scheme. With five home games left to play, including lucrative ties against Notts County, and Hartlepool (Easter Bank Holiday), the club estimate a lose of £250,000. All other events held at the stadium, are also off, including a Lionel Ritchie concert. This move has been done, to save the the club, which as present, is in a sound financial footing, despite having only played two home games since early January. Anyhow, for all it's worth, I think the three National Leagues should end the season using the PPG scheme. Anyhow, good luck, stay safe all Barrow fans.
