All this proves is that you can never trust anything in football; at the moment it almost feels like treachery. It's a massive disappointment because we have become accustomed to really attractive football, apart from anything else, including promotion. I hope the incumbent is going to play the same type of possession game. Big shoes to fill in many ways. The board have big decisions to make in appointing a successor, but I have faith in them.

It's disappointing because Ian Evatt for all his fine words has proved to be no better than the 99.9% of other managers and players who will move on for a bit of extra money. We always knew he would leave but the timing has very much left Barrow in the lurch without a manager and his list of players supposedly ready be strengthen the team. At least it seems as though Barrow will get all or almost all of the compensation in his contract. As others have said IMO he's made a bad mistake in his choice of club but we shall see. I watched Bolton against Pompey last season and they were truly pathetic (and Pompey are pretty awful at the moment) so whether they will have a decent season will be entirely down to who he can recruit on free transfers. They seem to think they will stroll through Division 2 but I think they will be in for a sharp shock!

Still surprised Ian didn't fancy the challenge of managing Barrow's first EFL season for 48 years. Kinda feels like he's wary of failure and has bottled out of it. Sad, but there you go. No hard feelings. We move on.

Apologies that it seems to be that we're taking your manager, hopefully you can get someone in that can keep your momentum going. It sounds like you had a rough time up until he came in.

I know for a lot of you, it will be a bitter taste losing Evatt and I wouldn't be surprised if he does well at Bolton and moves onto the next job that offers more money or reputation or ambition. That's football unfortunately, loyalty isn't at the top of the list for most anymore, which I think is understandable. It doesn't make it any less disappointing though. Be thankful that he's brought you success however and hope that you can build on that.

I'm looking forward to a toxic clash home and away with you whenever this next season starts! Always good to have something to spice up the atmosphere.

We had a similar thing with Burnley when we bought out Owen Coyle from them, they ended up getting relegated and Coyle did well with us for a little while until it went massively tits up and now Burnley are lightyears ahead of us, despite us being an established PL club before them. Judas flag at the Reebok in the away end and all when he initially joined!

Don't take the Bolton News comments as representative of our fan base, most Bolton fans are excited by Evatt. The Bolton News comments are the least informed opinions of our entire fanbase!

Good luck for the future. Hopefully Evatt can replicate the success he achieved with you at Bolton.

Had another think about this, and I wish IE the best because he’s a very decent man.

He signed the contract and knew the stipulations including the 250k release clause. He knew if this was met, then he could go but that would give Barrow the cash to progress. He didn’t have to agree to this and 250k seems reasonable

The contract is a value of how much he’s worth which is agreed by both the club and him - so good luck Ian and thanks for getting us to league 2

I am not too shocked as there is no loyalty in Football. However ,what does surprise me , is the fact that he’s gone to a club on a downward spiral in the same league. . History and a big ground ( which apparently they don’t own) will not pay the mortgage.

And to jump ship at the first sniff of a “ Big” club ( Division 2 and the National League are full of those) is very poor.

So thanks for the memories Ian. Good luck etc. Now let’s just get someone else who fancies a challenge in.

Got to respect what he built and achieved over the last couple of seasons. As others have said though he was always likely to move on and saw us as a stepping stone. Shame he wanted out so quickly.

Is anyone else sitting here looking at all this and smelling a bit of a rat. I have a niggling suspicion that this has been well and truly on the cards for quite some time. Little things like IE coming off twitter a few months back, comments about 'those players will go down in local folklore - not WE will go down in folklore etc and looking back on it just a bit of the demeanour of the man when interviewed on NW tonight once promotion was finally announced. Obviously we move on and look to the future but I think this move has been orchestrated some time ago. Its a shame as IE could have had Wilkie-esque status and I for one had genuine optimism about how we would have fared with him at the helm in L2. I still think we will be fine but such a shame that IE has tarnished his reputation and seemingly wasn't the guy we thought he was.
