Re: Dave Martin RIP
Ashamed to say I don’t know of Dave but the amount of love being shown here is clearly a testament to the man.
Love to his family and the wider Barrow AFC family at this sad time.
Rest in Peace Dave.

Re: Dave Martin RIP
I never knew Dave but the comments being made here show a man who was truly loved and big part of the Barrow family.
Thoughts to the family and friends. Rest in peace.

We hate Carlisle United, we hate Workington too (and Morecambe), we hate Accrington Stanley but Barrow we love you

Thats sad to hear Ste, one of the towns unsung heroes, did so much for so many kids over the years. Played under Dave for Ormsgill, my dad would turn up in his works Bedford van and we'd all pile in, sitting on milk crates in the back to get to games.
RIP Dave, one of life's good uns

Re: Dave Martin RIP
I didn't know Dave but these stories are totally uplifting. It's got to be people like this who are the real true soul of football, and indeed life generally. I only hope there is a beyond, where his generosity is appreciated and rewarded.

Only knew Dave by sight at Holker Street back in the bad old days when a few hundred would turn up. Got to know him when we were both in teams in the Sports Quiz League and his passion was boxing not football. Smashing bloke and just wished he could have seen at least one game back at Holker Street in League 2. If only we could have asked one of the directors to make him one of their guests it would have been really nice. RIP Dave

He used to sit behind me in the stand and would give me a tube of wine gums in exchange for sweets I would pass around.
However it became difficult for him to climb the steps to his seat so he moved along to sit behind the home dugout.
He used to leave before the end of the game so he could catch the bus to take him down Holker St to his home at Station Approach flats.
A great man and will be missed.

Re: Dave Martin RIP
Dave would have been a familiar sight to many back in the day walking up and down Schneider Road usually with a net containing footballs over his shoulder. He seemed to dedicate his every waking hour to football and youngsters in his community. Would I be right to think that he was the brother of John Martin (ex-AFC player) and George Martin (ex- local referee and administrator)?
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
