Re: BarrowAFC v forest Green rovers match thread
As seems usual for us, a piece of bad play costs us....this time the shocking defending for their first goal. I can accept in the heat of the moment a daft foul at the end of a game but to leave a player with so much space and allow a team to score without a challenge going in is pretty bad going at any level.
The pluses are we seem to be improving generally, the football is looking better and we are scoring a few goals, we’re not being totally outclassed & we’re on a decent little run. We also have to remember that the last two games have been against two very decent teams...I think we’d have all been happy with two draws last Saturday morning.
Think my wife hit the nail on the head with...why do you all put yourself through this?

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Creditable performance against good opposition.
Once our injured/suspended players are back, I'd start James Jones for Sam Hird: Josh Kay for Kosian Nthle: Lewis Hardcastle for Harrison Biggins.
With this line-up we'd probably win most games, having watched 13 opponents so far, none of whom we need fear.
Disappointed with Biggins poor free kicks. Wasted. Always too high over the bar.
You MUST make the most of your free-kicks, especially just outside the box, and corners too, like FGR did today.
James and Quigley as starters should be set in stone as our main goal-scorers, with Kay, Barry and possibly Hardcastle as secondary potential goal contributors.
All others are cream on the top.

So people are talking about slight changes to the team particularly for the Oldham match. Maybe Lillis for Dixon & Wilson for Hird. Certainly like to see them in for Wimbledon game but gut feeling is Oldham is the more important game at the present time & maybe should be given a go then. I also know Nthle can play central defence as well but probably better in a back three. Think we will see Zouma, Sea, Reid involved on Thursday night. Whatever happpens others will et an opportunity over the next two matches to press a claim for inclusion.

Why does Lillis need to come in for Dixon on Tuesday?
Popular side since '03.

The league is undoubtedly our priority, I think Dunn should play our strongest possible team on Tuesday to hopefully beat Oldham.

Oldham the priority.
I thought we played well in bits and especially when we went behind.
They will be in the play offs minimum based 9n so far.

Whilst league points are the priority I really hope we don’t put out a full second string in the cup; it’s a great chance of progress

I don't think we will at all, just in this season it's getting through it.
Re: BarrowAFC v forest Green rovers match thread
Don't underestimate Oldham. They were well worth the win today at Exeter. Got their goals then defended really well something we do not seem to do. They are going to be hitting us on the break and a certain Mr Rowe scored today. Hope we can be a bit more streetwise on Tuesday.

Re: BarrowAFC v forest Green rovers match thread
We're playing well. We are. Plus I'd like to think I'm more positive than some on here. BUT...why are these mistakes happening? The back 3 (5) are all the same as last season in Platt, Hird, Brough with Barry and Kay (obviously Ntlehe today). Add in Taylor and Jones in front and I'd say we have more than enough defensive cover on paper. This isn't sides tearing them open. It's people making mistakes and the communication breaking down. This wasn't happening last season. It's not players getting used to each other as new signings (Ntlehe and Jones aside).
I agree that there's only so long we can keep saying we're playing well etc. This is a clear area that needs improvement. Whatever the problem is, it needs to be fixed and quick. Without these silly errors draws turn into wins, losses into draws when you look at how games have gone this season.
This, I believe, will be what decides if this season is successful or not. If we defend for a full 90 to the standard we know these players are capable of, and add that to the general play we've been showing, we'll easily stay up. If it's not resolved....I'm not one for negative predictions but let's just say it can't continue.

We hate Carlisle United, we hate Workington too (and Morecambe), we hate Accrington Stanley but Barrow we love you

1st goal today a player blocks our defence. If quigley makes that header we're praising his movement and clever play... Its not always a fault, just split second moments. The proof will be how quick we learn. Cant compare to last season, coming up against teams with a bit more nounce,. KTF
Re: BarrowAFC v forest Green rovers match thread
Fair result. Bad refereeing decisions for the penalty and the last minute free kick cancelled each other out. I don't feel anything like as bad about the late equaliser as I did about the one Bolton got against us. Great finish by James for our first goal.
