Salford Match Thread
Re: Salford Match Thread
2 rushed decisions which will cause absolute havoc in the coming years. 1 step forward and I dread to think how many back.

I thought we looked more assured as a team & I used to panic when we tried playing it out as we always looked accident prone & off pace, Little green shoots of recovery, I still think we will survive by the skin of our teeth & my comments are from the 1st half as I missed the2nd.

Re: Salford Match Thread
I hope members of the board read this forum. Jolley sets us up with zero ambition 442 with brad barry and Patrick Brough as the RM & LM. If you'd have told anyone of us that is how we were going to try and approach league 2 I genuinely dont think we'd have believed it. Someone within the football club needs to fire a rocket up Jolleys arse and insist we have a go. As a season ticket holder i have not paid to watch a side with 6/7 defenders in it. I knew league 2 would be tough but I want to see us have a go not pray we will get a point and hope teams around us lose.

Why has Neil Eardley stopped taking corners and free kicks?
He put over some fantastic ones in his first few games for the club.

Most likely formation based and who is on field etc....saltcellar wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 12:13 am Why has Neil Eardley stopped taking corners and free kicks?

Yes. I agree. He has shown glimpses that he could be useful as did the young lad Goodridge tonight.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 8:03 pmFrom the glimpse we’ve seen of him so far I’d add Devitt to that Russell.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 7:54 pm Platt (when fit), Jones, Brough, Hird and Nthle are all better than Thomas or Davies! The only decent player that's been brought in is Eardly!
Not a great return for sacking off a load of players and bringing in another load that so far don’t look any better.

Re: Salford Match Thread
Appointing Dunn will ultimately result in us going down, I was astounded at the time and equally astounded some people wanted to give him more time, surely to god there were better candidates than dunn and jolley, I think the board are thinking we'll get another evatt by appointing a young manager, when in our first season back an experienced league 2 manager with the sole purpose to consolidate would have been the sensible optionKieran wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:06 pmWhy? For the most part we weren't losing games by big margins under Dunn either. Performances and results largely followed a similar pattern to tonight.
Appointing Dunn was a dreadful dreadful decision, it almost can't be overstated how bad that was. So far though, appointing Jolley doesn't look much better. There has been no improvement at all so far.
Re: Salford Match Thread
I did not watch the game last night and only listened to about 20 mins of first half commentary. However, from what I have seen since Jolley took over, it seems that he has tightened up defence and made us more organised and possibly more composed, but at the expense of any attacking threat. No matter how strong the defence is, someone will always make a mistake. When we concede, one feels there is minimal chance of getting back into the game.
Quigley has been a huge disappointment. I have seen glimpses of the old Quigley when he has been given good passes to run on to and outmuscle the defence, but banging the ball to him at chest height in the final third is predictable and tedious. Oh for a Danny Rowe or similar player!
I didn't expect much from the Salford game as they are a good side. My hope is that now the defence is more or less sorted, Jolley can build on that to introduce more variety and threat at the other end of the pitch.

Re: Salford Match Thread
That was bad. It was uninspiring, flat and we never in a million years looked like scoring - apart from one shot....by a defensive player. I also feel sorry for Quigley as the service he’s getting is very poor, this team isn’t set up to play to his strengths.
I’ve seen nothing so far to show we’ve improved under MJ, the additions he’s been allowed to make (under the dubious use of furlough) are looking no better than what we had under DD. I honestly believe that with the additions of Eardly, Devitt and one decent striker we would have stood a better chance of staying up than with what we have now.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Salford Match Thread
What do we have 19 games left to play ? 2 of those are Grimsby and Southend (2nd to last game of the season) 57 points left to play for now and we all knew February was a load of tough games. We made Salford play far worse thsn they did at our spot a few weeks ago. Yeah a utter rubbish mistake cost us a goal and it happens a lot in this team but the team looked a bit more solid. Hardcastle isn't playing as a no 10 as sits too deep, Kay just not making any impact but it could just be confidence with the team playing so poorly most of the season. My biggest worry is why have we stopped scoring goals ? Yeah we've played 2 top sides recently so that could be it but no chances at goal is worrying. I think at one point this season we were having 15 shots at goal but scoring the odd 1 or 2 but now nothing. The crosses are hitting the 1st defender. We need a decent game where we put 3 past someone to really bring the confidence level up ! Morcambe at home on Saturday will do !

Re: Salford Match Thread
We are missing a central midfielder who is purely there to sit in front of the defence and win the ball back then pass it onto more creative players
For all the signings we made in January that and the very obvious lack of a goalscorer stand out a mile
Re: Salford Match Thread
The only positive I can draw from the match last night was that apart from the mistake that led to the goal, we shut Salford out. Goodridge looked assured when he came on, but we look woefully up front.
