Every successful manager (and indeed unsuccessful one) has to start somewhere as an untried and untested rookie. Where did Evatt start his full time managerial career?! The point being that an experienced manager doesnt guarantee success and a rookie certainly doesn't guarantee failure.

Exactly. In fact, most of the "experienced" managers of EFL 2 clubs are managing at that level precisely because they aren't very good! If they were decent, they would have moved on to managing at a higher level. You might get the odd one who is decent but not very many. MOst of them just move around from club to club being failures at almost all but still getting re-hired because football directors by and large know sod all about football!

Sooner or later, they have a bad season and get the sack, or, of course, they move on like Evatt. Any manager who survives more than about 4 years is doing well.

I just had a quick look and i believe Simon Weaver at Harrogate is by far the longest serving EFL manager at the moment (11 years). Only 4 others with more than 4 years:

Gareth Ainsworth - Wycombe (8 years)
Sean Dyche - Burnley (8)
John Coleman - Accrington (6)
Jurgen Klopp - Liverpool (5)

Very true but the good ones generally have more successes than failures whereas most of the ones in EFL 2 have a succession of failures. John Sheridan is a prime example of this type. My son has just told me that the current favourite for the Barrow job is Adam Murray who has been a failure at both Mansfield and Boston and didn't manage a win in 2 short caretaker spells at Barnsley. Hopefully, that's just somebody having a bet and not any insider knowledge!

I’d pay no attention whatsoever to the early exchanges in betting markets
People can message the bookmaker to ask for people to be added to the betting and it doesn’t need much money putting on it to see any form of movement in the odds - the fact it has only just changed now from when the book was opened on Saturday means it won’t have had too much money thrown at it

More than likely to cover this nearly disastrous first season back in league football, paying out for sacked managers and masses of players will have added to massively to that “top ten” budget. I doubt very much that will continue, it can’t with the losses racking up.

With his father as owner/chairman there is 0% chance of Weaver getting the sack.

How many more times does Pail Hornby have to say "we are looking for a PROVEN L1 or L2 MANAGER?.

Not an assistant manager or a coach but a MANAGER.
