They ve all got a full season to rest heal and come back. Full pre season this time round as well. All worth keeping in my eyes.blue nige wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 2:36 pmAgree We don`t know if jones (at his age) will be the same player , Devitt good player injury prone misses more than he play`s,Taylor will be back up can`t play every week ,Ntilhe distribution is shocking gets caught out of position a lot.Ace wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 1:37 pm Why are we retaining Brown and Taylor?
Really like both players, good squad members of our national league team but how are we progressing with them next season?
We already have Jones, Beadling, Banks and Devitt for centre midfield. Add Taylor to that and it doesn’t leave us much room to improve that area. Are we really saying we’re strong enough there with those 5?
Wouldn’t have offered a deal to a Ntlhe either, other than having a good leap and being decent in the air for someone who’s not the tallest I can’t think of any other quality he brings to the team. Injury prone, deceptively slow, unable to pass forward and unreliable when it comes to completing 90 minutes and playing twice a week.
I think I’m right in thinking that it’s just 20 players over 21yo we can have next season (unless that rules been dropped) so we don’t have a lot of room for the complete rebuild I was hoping for.

As someone who has suffered for over 20 years I find your comment insulting.

Er, not dross as such, especially in Kay’s case but unfortunately his talent is hidden by petulance. Taylor came with a bad reputation from other clubs and for me proved decent enough but we have better in midfield already at the club let alone who comes in over the summer.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 12:50 pmIf you are classifying all the released players as dross, then only Josh Kay and Chris Taylor of them played more than a few games.John_Bucks wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 12:22 pm
The table doesn't lie, we know that, but any manager coming in must surely be happy with what we already have on the books, I think that is the point being made.
Shipped out the dross and the deadwood and left with a core of players to add to and shape.

Lets be fair Taylor was very very poor.John_Bucks wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 4:32 pmEr, not dross as such, especially in Kay’s case but unfortunately his talent is hidden by petulance. Re: retained list out
Jason Taylor was our player of the season in many fans eyes, think he’s deserved another year.
I’m far from Connor Browns biggest fan on the pitch but he is a handy squad player, can cover either full back/wing back position easily.
You’d like to hope at least one central midfielder who can play every week will be on the shopping list. Mike Jones was probably our best player early on in the season and Devitt has shown flashes of creativity......just (just!) need both to stay fit

Until his injury he was top off the league for 2nd ball retention.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 4:48 pm Jason Taylor was our player of the season in many fans eyes, think he’s deserved another year.

Re: retained list out
Totally agree Russell, three managers tried and in the end just in so got enough out of that squad to stumble over the line.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 11:51 amWhat makes it a decent squad?
It's no better than last season's at the moment which was far from decent as the league position proves!
If, we lose Dixon and Barry, which would not be a surprise, then it will be worse than last season.
I honestly thought (hoped) there’d be a few more thanked for their efforts but shown the door. I worry about going into a new season with the majority of the players that nearly had us relegated.
BTW, that’s not meaning to sound like I’m having a go at the players, they are obviously (or should be) playing to the best of their abilities but it was down to abysmal recruiting.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Agree, we need to strengthen right across the park or else its same again.

Re: retained list out
Don't see any mention of the huge hole left in defence by the departure of loaners Tom Davies and Bobby Thomas.
If we then lose Dixon, Barry and Quigley after already losing Kay and Eardley, the core of the team has been decimated.
The above 7 were a substantial part of the starting line-up, week in, week out.
Sorry 'Tommylad', but that doesn't sound like a decent squad to me (prior to any new arrivals)
Really disappointed young Calum Gribbin didn't make it. After leaving MU, seems he went into free-fall.

Re: retained list out
Quigs apart, most of those retained make decent squad players (and I think there's more due from Banks and a fit Devitt) so it's really down to the quality of recruitment from now.
If Quigs goes there should be a decent pot of cash to find a replacement.

Tom Davies hardly played any of the last 10 games, Josh Kay hardly started any of them and didn't even make the bench on a few occasionsSayitagainSam wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 6:05 pm Don't see any mention of the huge hole left in defence by the departure of loaners Tom Davies and Bobby Thomas.

Our main scout has identified players we could recruit its whether the new manager would want them

Re: retained list out
Without sounding harsh, who has our scouts found since that season we signed Williams and Bennet? I don't recall much success since, seems to be living off them.
Astley Mulholland? Paul bignot?
