Encouraging performance by most of the players, and glimpses of some decent team play. Great save by Dixon to deny Sea. Hutton had a very good first half.
Sad to say the pies were very poor, or at least the one I had was - not a patch on those available pre Covid.

In this age of stats and analytics I’m sure we’re not dishing out contracts based on a good performance against the van drivers and shelf stackers of Southport.

perhaps we can persuade Ryan Yates to get on our team bus when we leave after playing Forest on Monday.... I think we may be using the game to look at a loan striker though.

A decent friendly with few goal scoring chances. IMO we have a better squad than at this time last year. Good reception for Evatt (As it should be) on his way to the dugout. Zanzala didn't play and I don't know how good he is but we need another striker. Triallist not for me. Enjoyed the day and glad to be back........... even if it was with a flask. Looking forward to the away days.

I thought it was a decent game, quite competitive for a friendly (as it should be IMO)
Hutton looks a good addition, Banks & White also look like they’ll play a big role in this coming season.
As others have suggested, with this current squad and set-up the goals unfortunately won’t be flowing. MC does on this showing though look like he wants to play decent attractive football.

Off the field, the queues at the fanzone were ridiculous, two people serving was poor planning. I never went in the X Bar but others did only to return straight away saying the queues up there were as bad. That has to be sorted ASAP or it will definitely put people off, which would be a shame as in this weather it’s a great facility.

Have to agree Ian. After I spoke to you I waited 25 mins to get served, bloody ridiculous. To make things worse, people were shouting from outside the bar to people in the queue inside to get beer for them.So people in the queue
had to wait even longer. People who were in the queue were looking round, complaining, nothing was done. The lager was shite as well.
Best part of the day was the reception Ian Evatt received, brilliant.

Enjoyed game Banks very good nice to have a look at Sea hope het gets more game time this year.Thought we looked good and hope zinzala hamstring tweak heals soon they hope he ok by start season and he Seasiders in interview club supportive he still looking for player make us more potent up front.Agree with comments re the pies awful bland and little meat.Sausage rolls ok.Would you believe they from firm Morecambe way as deli didn’t renew and I think greens were a bit expensive with quote.I told Harry the new chap in charge as much and they are looking at it again .I think pies from Sutherland street good steak ones particularly don’t know if they would be interested if approached.
Respect of staff I was there early and it was a real eye opener just how many staff required turnstiles refreshment huts bar without including our regular stewards.Was combination of people agency and those connected with Mr Hornby and other staff.Unfortunate that the first trial run in front of large attendance and feel sure that the lessons of what worked and what was not efficient will have been learnt.It is really hard to get casual good staff which is surprising in a town where I am always reading of people being hard up.
The thing that will need sorting in signage and control at steelworks end where numerous people came from fanzone or popular side and decided to watch game sitting or standing that end.Saw one bloke spoke to by two different stewards to move and it took the persuasion of female safety officer/ official to get him to shift.people continued to walk along and sit or stand there.Whilst they doing nothing wrong because rule we are told is no one allowed.We don’t want to get in trouble with authorities if they pay visit to assess how effectively we are enforcing their regs at our unusual ground.All in all good day and they all worked hard.A few teething problems but well done all staff.Sure better next time.

Really disappointing to see that a large number of vocal and well known fans who were behind the goal in the first half have decided to now stand on the popular side. Despite being told not to by the club. Some of these may also be involved with the club by all accounts. Ruining it for everyone else.

The same group who also were spotted taking empty pint plastics before the game at the fan zone and magically reappearing with a full drink out of nowhere when some people had queued for 20minutes.

Good competitive friendly, we certainly matched Bolton for most of the game.
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Dimitri Sea, he looked a right handful when he came on & troubled the Bolton defence, I’d like to see more of him on that showing. Romaeo Hutton looks exciting, I like how MC has set the Midfield up which gets the most out of Banks & Beadling.
Finally the ground is looking great, some transformation. Folk should be really proud of themselves.

Dont the club put videos of pre and post match interviews with the manager anymore? The tweets during the meet the manager night and during the game were not as forthcoming is the media manager having a weekend off
