Re: Barrow v Colchester match thread
Thought the Jones red was slightly unfortunate the ball seemed to bounce off his back and as he turned and stuck a leg out instinctively their player collided with him. So it goes. On the other hand what Farman was doing for their winner is worrying. His reactions aren't what I would expect of a keeper at this level and imo he's got to improve immediately in this department. Besides the Harrogate debacle i honestly thought he could've readjusted and saved that penalty against Villa as well but who'd be a goalie? Entertaining game tonite so got to be grateful for small mercies. Agree with a lot of earlier posts what the hell were the forwards trying to do in the 1st half? Trying to get Forsyth up his ladder again!

Re: Barrow v Colchester match thread
The positives are our midfield. The fact that we have a very well rested Tom white come back in when needed is massive. The leeds lads both look very good and Banks playing very well.
Included in that are Hutton and Brough who both have been very decent so far this season.
What worries me is very sloppy goals conceded. Our defence didn’t look comfortable all night except when we were putting the pressure on for 15 minutes up until our penalty. After that, we managed to give their unit of a centre half a free header from 6 yards out from a set piece. Didn’t see a push on Sea personally.
We need pace and physicality at the back and we lacked that tonight. Yes we have a few injuries but we were too easily outpaced, outmuscled and outsmarted.
At the other end, we didn’t make the pressure count.
We were very unlucky to lose this game though. On another day, we win this comfortably. We will win games where we don’t deserve to, so in perspective we have to chalk this down to ‘one of those days’. we go again. One thing you can’t dispute is the attitude of this team.
We look more than capable of being a playoff contender if we can cut out the mistakes and make our pressure count.

Just seen the highlights, their 3rd goal should have been disallowed for the foul and push on sea....

Nope was stood in that end, all I can think is that maybe someone thought the "zagger" chant was something else and misheardAugustusCorpa wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 11:07 pm Did anyone in the HS end actually hear the alleged racist remarks or chanting the Barrow fans are being accused of .
If it did happen I missed it. I’ve not heard any home fans say they did hear it yet.

Firstly I think Jason Taylor has been kept on as a interim Manager incase Mark Cooper moves on quickly.
I heard he had a good match against Oldham I thought they must be poor.
Taylor reminds me of when Darren Sheridan played lots of commitment but had his day.
I watched Sheridan run round like a headless chicken and to be honest JT should have finished when we came in the league.
On the racism row I think alot more will speak up but still not enough that goes for all teams.
I remember Barrow playing Boston they had a big player think his name was Jim Kabia .
One lad kept shouting Kunta Kinter pick your chains up,Kabia had to be restrained from getting over the popular side wall to hit the guy people were laughing and I had a go at the lad.
It's no were near as bad but they don't realise we have players of colour.
Needs stamping on by all clubs

Re: Barrow v Colchester match thread
Hi,
I’m not a fan of either club last night, but watched the game on I follow (and what a game!).
I have taken an interest in Barrow and watched 3 games so far this season, I think there is the makings of a decent league 2 side.
Last night, I thought Barrow should have gone on and won the game 2nd half due to the following factors
* Colchester where rubbish. They are clearly not well coached and where often out of position and struggling to move across the pitch as a unit out of possession. This worked to Barrows advantage when they switched the play from the right to the left (but not the other way around),
Colchester players where displaying heavy legs from as early as the 60th minute and for large portions of the 2nd half lacked any game plan beyond getting behind the ball.
* Barrow lacked balance. The Barrow right hand side did not have the same support from defence going forward as the left. That could be down to a whole host of reasons but Barrow’s left hand side in possession was far more of a threat with players able to carry the ball and confident to take shots,
Barrow also went long slightly too often, there’s no problem going long if it’s working but one of the stats after the game on the I follow summary was aerial duels won and I think Barrows was 41%.
The defending for the 3rd Colchester goal was shocking both the lead up to the corner (gave Nouble too much respect) and from the corner (no one on the post).
If I was a Barrow fan I would be encouraged by last night.
Why?
They clearly are a team able to mix it up with some quality dominating for long periods of the 2nd half.
They created chances.
They have players on the left hand side who are comfortable running with the ball and creating, not a lot of teams in league 2 have such ability from the left.
The most overall positive about watching Barrow is they are always giving 100% which means as a neutral the games are entertaining as they do not simply lie down and take a defeat.
I will keep up my interest in Barrow and hope to visit for a game before Christmas.
All the best for Bradford City away, a tough place to go but if Barrow play with the same tempo and direct approach I think they will have a chance of success as Bradford have struggled against direct teams (ignore the Walsall result, they simply couldn’t put the ball in the net missing a catalogue of chances).

Re: Barrow v Colchester match thread
It's always interesting to hear non Barrow fans views on our performance - going forward we are way better than last season, but defensively we are down to the bare bones in central defence - we have used 8 different players there already this season. Taylor who played is basically our last resort and his lack of pace was a major factor in the 1st 2 goals we conceded.DistantNeutral wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 7:14 am Hi,

The ref lost control of the game and bottled (most) of the big decisions including not disallowing the winning goal for a push on Sea.

Farman had 2 players standing about a yard in front of him when Colchester scored the winning goal from the corner.mulholland wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 12:32 am Thought the Jones red was slightly unfortunate the ball seemed to bounce off his back and as he turned and stuck a leg out instinctively their player collided with him. He must have been momentarily unsighted which was probably why his reaction was slow.
Ironically, Freddie Sears was in an offside position when the ball was played forward for the Colchester second goal and had the ball not skimmed off the head of James Jones would have been flagged for it.
Re: Barrow v Colchester match thread
I note on this occasion that it took five pages of the thread before Taylor's legs went.
As good as anyone at Oldham, he was left last night with far to much to do in the middle against a team who exploited defensive weakness that has been evident previously. Other teams will have noted this; so will the manager who had reminded us that he is above all a coach and is looking forward to getting whistle out.

Re: Barrow v Colchester match thread
it's not just Taylors legs, it was what he was trying to do ( this is not his fault) he was trying to play offside, whilst trying to organise both grayson and Jones who were getting dragged all over the pitch, Brough could have helped more he was caught in no-mans land a lot of the time!
I ( for what it's worth) would have played with a flat back 4,with white in front, then have Banks and gotts in front, then have our front 3.
we can only play a back 3 when we have at least Jones and
Ellis together ( we desperately need to get platt back)
people think playing a back 3 makes you more solid it will if you all know your positions formation etc ,we shouldn't still bang on with this system, when we are still changing the defence all the time it takes at least 10 games to get this right we're asking too much of our players to adapt to this given our injuries, lack of facilities etc.

I don't think Cooper is going to change. He always likes to play 3-5-2. But you've got to have the players. Personally I've been unimpressed with Ellis so far so he may not be the answer. With this system our wing backs need to be very mobile. Good or fast breaking teams hit you down the flanks so force the centre backs out of position which happened to Jones & Grayson last night. Brough in particular needs to do his bit. On top of that Taylor, Ellis are not the quickest hence the stupid goals we concede. Been said by me and many others on here why is MC so reluctant to play Arthur. Dread what Cookie might do to us next week.

Spot on Andy the people around me last night are in agreement, Cooper is not happy but he also has to look at himself sometimes!

Re: Barrow v Colchester match thread
I have to strongly disagree. Ellis is the first name on the team sheet for me. Strong in the tackle and puts his head on every ball. A solid 8/10 every game and we have missed his experience and organisational skills. We got away with it at Oldham but got found out last night. Jason Taylor has been great for us but a C/H he is not. I would hope a centre half who is a free agent signs this week.andyg wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 12:07 pm I don't think Cooper is going to change.
