RAIDERS v BLUEBIRDS - the Differences.
Life-long supporter of both professional Barrow teams since I was a young boy, some 60+ years ago.
Have attended both Craven Park & Holker St. 1000’s of times over the years.
My personal fair & balanced assessment of the current difference (chasm) between the rugby and soccer.
Raiders enjoy great success with their home games. Unbeaten in the last 2-years. Bluebirds rarely win at home.
Difference between the two (IMO):
#1. TEAM SELECTION: Raiders always start with their best team. Bluebirds often don’t. (Injuries excepted).
#2. SCORING: Once Raiders are in their opponents 25-metre line, they show no mercy, they are determined to score, sometimes creatively. Once Bluebirds are in their opponent’s penalty box, they lack ideas, know-how and are reluctant to shoot.
#3. DEFENDING: Raiders rarely make silly mistakes defending their own goal line, otherwise their opponents will score. Best defensive record in the league. Bluebirds are guilty of too many defensive errors and allow unnecessary goals.
#4. DISCIPLINE: Raiders seldom have anyone yellow or red-carded. Bluebirds have several yellow cards every game, many from being petulant, which add up to suspensions.
#5. TEAM-WORK: Raiders play as a team. Each and every player has his own separate role, he knows it and the players support each other. Bluebirds play like a bunch of individuals and not as a team. Raiders do not give the ball away easily. They hang on to it for all they’re worth. Bluebirds give the ball away easily by making careless passes.
#6. COACHING: Raiders have a tactical game-plan, a good formation, which they stick to. They have flair and creativity, but play it tight and controlled. Bluebirds lack these attributes. Raiders coach never blames his players or makes excuses.
These points are just my personal opinion. Others might add more.
As the Raiders win their home games, I return to my home feeling happy and satisfied.
As the Bluebirds lose most of their home games, I return to my home feeling unhappy and dis-satisfied.
I now prefer to watch the Bluebirds via ifollow (£10 to the Club) than drive from Ulverston to Holker St and back and arrive back home frustrated and deflated (ask the wife)
IF the Bluebirds take a leaf out of the Raiders book for success, they will stay up.
IF not and they do not change and improve their ways, they will be relegated.
And I won’t be around in another 48 years to return to Holker St (if it’s still there).

Think the forum might have peaked
Could pick out many points from this but just to clarify in the 2 years unbeaten at home how many games would Barrow Raiders not have been favourites to win? And last season especially how many of those would they have been favourites to win by a ridiculous number of points on the handicap by?

Love a good comedy sketch, this should be an all time classic
Re: RAIDERS v BLUEBIRDS - the Differences.
2 completely different styles of sport. The only comparison you could draw is the determination, but even that’s difficult to due to the money and local player aspects
Re: RAIDERS v BLUEBIRDS - the Differences.
Off topic, general football at best.
Re: RAIDERS v BLUEBIRDS - the Differences.
Seems to be a lot of moaning lately, we’ve still come a long way since the cox, ady pennock era. We’ve scored a goal more than Hartlepool but on Tuesday even before they scored the 3 goals the stadium was bouncing with about 4.5k on a Tuesday night. In terms of the egg chasers, how can you compare a team that plays in a mud bath?

Re: RAIDERS v BLUEBIRDS - the Differences.
Not much I agree with in that but would definitely dispute No. 5. The other, factual point to make is that the club doesn't receive all of the iFollow subscription. It gets something in the order of £8.30, I believe.
Don't let the old man in.
Re: RAIDERS v BLUEBIRDS - the Differences.
Interesting.
I watched a bit of that Super Bowls last night, maybe if we got Dr Dre in to knock out a half time show you might go home a bit more satisfied ?

Re: RAIDERS v BLUEBIRDS - the Differences.
Good post, just to add though, Raiders passing to hand is a lot slicker than Barrow AFC's, with the latter downright refusing to do it, probably because they'd get penalised for handball.
Popular side since '03.

Re: RAIDERS v BLUEBIRDS - the Differences.
Considering the forum is for 'Entertainment purposes only', seems I'm doing a good job.
At least no one has yet called me a 'C*@K Sucker, like the reply I had to my last post.
I didn't see any humour in that response - not funny.
Re: RAIDERS v BLUEBIRDS - the Differences.
Barrow Bluebirds would have had great difficulty playing on the pitch Barrow Raiders did on Sunday.. however in the seventies / eighties many football teams had no issues with a muddy pitch
