I wonder how many condemned the British invasion of India, Ireland and other countries?
The Yanks invading the land of the Native American Indian? And Irag.

I take your point. However, we should be the last country on earth to condemn anybody!

Paul Weller wrote:
"We ruled the world - we killed and robbed,
The fu*king lot - but we don't feel bad
It was done beneath the flag of democracy" :?

From 'Little Boy Solders' - a song from The Jam's 'Setting Sons' album.
Bullsh1t. Bring what you want, Wear what you want. Think what you want And say what you want as long as it is legal and safe to do so. Respect the views of others. Do not condemn but do not be afraid to challenge or offend if needs be.

I'll raise your Paul Weller with a Nelson Mandela - "There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountain top of our desires". A sentiment that should resonate with every Bluebird supporter out there.
I think you've missed my point.
I wasn't condoning anybody for having sympathathy for Ukraine. I do myself.
My point being that it is hypocritical for the UK to condemn another nation for invading one country when the British Empire's wealth was built on the invasion of many. Someone mentioned anachronism in this thread and the past. It still happened. We robbed and pillaged the entire world. More commonly known as colonialism ;) and bringing democracy

His “we” is based on what “we” did a long time ago. Pretty irrelevant in this case.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Solidarity with Ukraine, as per the title, yes, please.

By this logic, Germany can't condemn the invasion because they invaded Poland, France can't because they invaded England in 1066, Italy can't because the Romans invaded us, etc, etc.

And if you discover that, for example, your great grandfather committed dreadful crimes in the 1800s, does that mean you can not condemn similar crimes in modern times?

It's similar to taking the knee. A nice gesture for a while but what good has it actually done, or will do?

Is it not just a case of mega-rich sportsmen paying lip service to the real problems that surround us?

Spot on in Fazered. To many people are happy to ignore the fact that Britain has bombed, tortured and exploited its way around the world.

So, by that logic, what Britain did 1000 years ago somehow legitimises what Putin is doing now...really?

Absolute rubbish. The same people who condemned British bombing of other countries are now condemning the bombing of Ukraine. The two aren’t mutually exclusive🙄

Britain DID indeed bomb, torture and exploit its way around the world-they say the truth hurts dont they ?.
Remember, your 'real' enemy is at home, (the enemy within as that b*****d Thatcher was fond of saying) they were holding illegal parties a while back.

truth doesn’t hurt me. I’m quite happy to condemn Russian actions in Ukraine. Doesn’t mean I’m excusing anything Britain has done historically. You need a reality check and to stop supposing what others think.
