Yes and then he was assistant to Matt Taylor at Walsall this season before getting sacked in February.

Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
Totally agree. They should be offered a decent length of contract otherwise it is insulting.RedWeb wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 1:10 pm Don't think we should be taking the p1ss and offering Broony a short-term deal loaded with get-out clauses after 6 months. Phil didn't come up with yesterday's spuds, he's an experienced manager who has earned respect. Offer him a proper deal or start looking for the next David Dunn.

This is what I think will happen; and it won’t be some short term bonus related contract. It will be a 2 or 3 year deal
FWIW I would still say thanks very much and goodbye at the end of the season but I’d be very surprised if we do now, always looked the case if we stayed up that he would be offered a long term deal

Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
Alot of posters who undermined phil brown when appointed are probably the same ones who are never satisfied again IMO We were dead in the water no leadership no organization no goals no belief on our way back to NL football probably for many years and we know how hard it is to get back Phil Brown has turned it around got us organized gave us beliief goals even dropped the clubs captain because the lads performances were terrible turned a struggling number 9 into a good league 2 forward got results against the better teams in league 2 we even look like a football team again now if thats not enough to give the man a crack at the job !..............

Won 2 games and he’s the messiah. See what he does for the next 3.
Would like to see what other options are out there no need to rush into a decision plenty of time unlike other times

Alternatively, he has kept Barrow in the EFL when plenty on here didn't think they'd win another point.

Who would you choose?
Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
I cant look beyond Brown. He has got us safe and has bags of experience and managed an un-fancied team in the top flight. Now he is managing an un-fancied team in L2 and something in that galvanises all involved. Yes not everyone’s cup of tea but right now we need a path for L2 stability to allow the off-field club to catch up. He will not be phased by any competition we will face (remembering “big step up Dunn”- who was beaten before we started) and the immediately off putting “they used to spit at me here” first interview with Cooper. (He May as well have worn a sticker on his head saying “I don’t want to be here”.
Brown will give the players a self belief that they can compete at the the top end. We need that character. We’ve got it badly wrong with the last three for different reasons (not counting Kelly in that). He has three games left and all eyes will be on the intensity we play at now we know we are safe. He wont let up now but it will tell us the character of the team he has inherited and who is still showing the desire. Hopefully all of them.
Brown / MacDonald all the way for me- (I wasn’t keen at first) and then we can enter the close season in the knowledge that he has got to know the players and how the club operates. A head start on next season.

Re: Brownies HONEYMOON PERIOD
I’m slightly torn me. There’s good arguments on both sides here.
I was totally willing to give him a chance as I thought we were going down with Cooper and couldn’t see a way back, We had to roll the dice and when Brown was announced I thought he was the best we could probably get under the circumstances and I gave the board their due after making a key decision last season on getting rid of Jolley and giving the job to Kelly.
Initially I was worried that if he does keep us up we’ll give him the job, I mean we had Southend fans coming on here discrediting pretty much everything about him and hardly anyone having a nice word to say.
What I’ve seen since he arrived is someone who seems totally enthusiastic about being here, someone who seems to get Barrow as a club and town, someone really easy to warm to. All that was desperately missing from our previous two appointments, depressingly so at times.
And then on the pitch. What we’ve seen is someone who didn't simply give us a new manager bounce as we lost the following games in the same fashion. We seen someone spot exactly why we weren’t competing to the standard needed then make big tactical and personnel changes and get us 7 points (unlucky not to be 9) from the next 3 games scoring 7 goals in the process keeping us in the football league. No one who watched us all season can deny how impressive that is.
For that reason I think calling it a honey moon period is unfair and if this end to season is a trial for the job long term then so far he’s passed that in every department.
