I think it's the fact that you acted quickly and appointed his assistant as the new Manager which stopped that from happening - on the players front it is unfortunate for you that 4 of your better players were all out of contract at the end of the season.ShaymenJohn wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:25 pmIt's what Wild said in his farewell statement that has got fans frothing as you say. Was talking about planting trees and what have you. Will be interesting to see what the dynamic is between Wild and all the back room staff that have stayed at the Shay. It just seems odd that not one person followed him up to Barrow.

Re: Tyrell Warren
To be fair our best players are still at the shay. Green, Spence, Warburton. If you start signing those players, then we are definitely in trouble!

I hardly think out of contract players can be considered 'trees' etc. They were leaving anyway, so it doesn't matter who they signed for. I doubt we'll pay a fee for anyone still at Halifax.
On the staff front, presumably they were all quite happy to stay and get a pay rise/promotion. Or Wild didn't even bother to try and take them.

What I dont understand is why Halifax allowed all these contracts to expireShaymenJohn wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:25 pmIt's what Wild said in his farewell statement that has got fans frothing as you say. My understanding is that most players in the NL will re sign if you offer them a pay rise and a clause that says they have to be allowed to talk should a FL club come calling. And most FL clubs wont baulk at paying 20 or 30k for a player they really want to get him which means the system as it currently is works well for everyone.
Other than the assistant manager i.m not sure who else people think Wild might have brought with him To me the appointment of Wild was an attempt by Hornby to get off the same old same old managerial roundabout and part of that would be to not have to pay off a whole load of staff and not just the outgoing manager. When its just the manager you're paying off you just increase the budget by his salary amount and then go on paying him as normal [ or in some cases just deduct his salary from the budget you give the new manager ]

Re: Tyrell Warren
We will get money in the form of compensation for Warren. He's under 24 and we offered him a contract. How much money is anybodys guess. We may have a clause or two as well, I suspect.

Wild reiterated again and again while at the shay, that it was a team effort and that his success was dues to Joe Sargison and Milly as much as himself. The fact Barrow didn't try talk to the entire management team is a weird one for me.M6 BLUE wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:11 amWhat I dont understand is why Halifax allowed all these contracts to expireShaymenJohn wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:25 pm

Maybe because our BOD had others in mind for the assistant job and we already have a decent backroom staff already settled at the club?ShaymenJohn wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:48 amWild reiterated again and again while at the shay, that it was a team effort and that his success was dues to Joe Sargison and Milly as much as himself. Re: Tyrell Warren
I can empathise with Shaymans angst. But football is a funny fickle business.
Firstly you need to separate the issue of the players from the management team. The forces that influence players decisions cannot be controlled by a management team however good they are. They cannot even be controlled by their contracts.
In that respect Halifax are in an especially vulnerable position right now. And not only from us. My guess would be that Bradford City have scouts at the Shay most weeks and that if they wanted a player - any player - they’d move in. Fortunately the Bantams are a bonkers club who think they are competing in the Championship and make a lot of mistakes when recruiting.
Shay man seems obsessed with the fact that the rest of the management team at Halifax didn’t come to Barrow. My guess is they might have come ( assuming we wanted them) if Millington had come. So a show of support for the new manager. But also a group of locally based staff who didn’t want to move.
Lastly it’s unlikely that this lack of movement created much concern in with the Barrow BoD. We’ve had 6 managers in 2 seasons. Settled is not the word I’d use. But this does focus the mind specifically on the managers position. The rest is a side issue.
The issue for us therefore is not whether Wild is a good man or a true team player or a loyal servant. But can he hack it at this level. That’s all that matters to us.

It has happened to us in the past and it will happen to us again. Bigger clubs with money will tempt your best players or manager. We arguably suffered more than Halifax have when losing Evatt after getting promotion, leaving us facing a new, bigger and unknown challenge in the EFL. Also, we suffered greatly from the loss of Quigley to big-spenders Stockport.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 9:59 am I can empathise with Shaymans angst. Starting afresh with his own choice of staff.
He had to leave Halifax with something.
I pray he has left that bloody awful drum there as well.
That was an embarrassment.

Re: Tyrell Warren
If Halifax didn’t offer the assistant manager the job I’m guessing he’d have followed Wild; as it was he got a chance to become outright manager himself and Wild got a change to look around for a fresh assistant manager. Both parties will be happy
Re: Tyrell Warren
From what I know about from a reliable Halifax source the first thing the Halifax board did when they got wind of Wild going to Barrow was say to Millington are you planning on going ? and would your decision be influenced by an offer of the managers job here ? I guess we.ll never know the answer to the first question and the answer to the second is there for all to see.ShaymenJohn wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:48 amWild reiterated again and again while at the shay, that it was a team effort and that his success was dues to Joe Sargison and Milly as much as himself.
