Rooney won't start this season as he's coming back from an operation (I think) so he's not match fit. Therefore it is up to the other midfielders to make their mark. However, I still feel we lack firepower and that's why we will need Rooney as he knows where the net is. For me anything but a relegation scrap would be a bonus in my opinion. We certainly are building a big athletic team which could very well be the answer this season Lets hope so.

I agree with the overall sentiment, which is positive and hopeful, but as we all know hope is not a strategy. Only my opinion, but there is just cause for being optimistic about how we will do this season. Having heard PW in interview it seems we will be big, strong and fit. Also with a definite game plan. A big plus compared to the last L2 efforts. Too often we played ok, but ended up being bullied, and then going down by the odd goal. It’s a tough league. Great that we have eight new players in, but other sides have several more new acquisitions than that, eg, but not exclusively, Bradford, Walsall, Crawley and Stevenage. Can’t wait.

There's no way the Rooney we had under Evatt wouldn't be in the team. I don't think the Rooney who returned is quite the same player but we still will have a very good midfield if he can't get in it. It will be interesting to see how we start as it seems he won't be fit for a few early matches. I agree with the person who is more concerned with our forward players than the midfield which looks the strongest part of the team - on paper, at least!

If it does turn out to be quite a successful season the only thing that worries me is the heavier restrictions on peoples finances given whats going on with ever increasing prices.

We won’t get promoted…..but crucially we won’t get relegated

We’ve made some very good solid signings so far; the midfield options look superb this season. Think we are another quality goalscorer away from having survival sealed early enough this season to actually enjoy the last month or so of the season. Wonder if Wood/Wild will look to the loan market for a young striker as Prem/Championship clubs finalise their squads towards the end of the window

Top half of the table and I’ll be absolutely creaming. I really don’t see us struggling with this squad though. Obviously I’m paying no mind to any other clubs recruitment either so I can’t really gauge where we’ll be.

Whilst there are no obvious duffers in L2 recruitment IMO hasn’t really changed the profile of teams from last season. Still see Rochdale, Hartlepool, Colchester and Harrogate as likely to be in our vicinity along with Carlisle. Some unknowns such as Sutton, Newport, Crawley, Stevenage etc. Don’t know what to expect from Grimsby, or the relegated teams though Gillingham and Doncaster should be strong. Otherwise you know what you’ll get from Bradford, Salford Northampton and not least Stockport.

Don’t believe there is much between ourselves and quite a few others. Think it will be down to pure performance this season. Though you can never rule out a good scandal.

Pleased with the business in the transfer market so far, each bit has been sensible and the signings we have made should be an upgrade on those that we released.

Carlisle manager Paul Simpson said similar a few weeks ago. He named both Stevenage and Crawley as two clubs offering what he called ridiculous wages to players and he questioned how clubs of that size can afford it.
