Of the starting xi tonight only Moxon and Gibson are amongst our ‘guaranteed’ starters, though one of Feeney or Whelan would usually start (Whelan of late as Feeney has been out injured). Neither fullback would usually start, though Ellis did play against Doncaster on Saturday as Back and Senior are both out injured. Stretton has been starting up front (again due to us having multiple forwards out with knocks - Sod’s law that he went off injured himself tonight). Kelly (GK tonight) has yet to play a league game.

We’re in the midst of an injury crisis so it was good for us to be able to rest a bunch of players, though their replacements tonight will be disappointed not to have made more of a case for their future involvement. Hopefully we can bounce back on Saturday against Orient…

It was good to see two goals in ten minutes in a second half which Barrow dominated following a scrappy first 45, elongated by a firework being thrown on to the pitch in the 3rd minute. Play was stopped for 17 minutes and the Holker Street end was cleared of Barrow fans.

Carlisle were forced into an early change in the 35th minute, their injured No.32 being replaced by Ryan Edmondson. A minute later, we had our first chance on goal as George Ray fired straight at the goalie from close range following a Billy Water cross.

The 17 minutes of time added due to the pyrotechnic saw Carlisle in brief ascendancy. In the first minute of time added Harrison Neal was booked for a foul on Owen Moxon. Five Carlisle corners in the next ten minutes were cleared, during which a shot following an Edmondson free kick in the 6th minute of time added was cleared off the line.

The last kick of the first half saw Josh Kay fire a sharp shot at Carlisle’s goalie, but it was well held.

The second half saw Barrow take more control Carlisle’s Jordon Gibson fired wide of the left post six minutes in but Barrow then won a couple of corners. In the 64th minute, a good run by Waters found Kay who crashed a shot against the bar from the left edge of the area. On 69 minutes, Kay’s run and shot gave us the lead.

Immediately Carlisle made a couple of changes while Foley replaced Neal for Barrow.

In the 79th minute, an Ellis shot was well blocked by our defence and a minute later we earned a corner. Kay’s kick from the right was headed back into the mix by Ray add the far post giving Foley a header in the centre for 2-0.

Ray was then replaced by Whitfield and the attendance of 2,281 including 171 visiting fans was announced. Kay was awarded Barrow’s man of the match.

A comfortable 2-0 win in the end.

It’s not really to do with whether the opposition was at full strength or not. Our problem have been more to do with the way we’ve been playing whether against better or poorer opponents.

It’s nothing to do with Carlisle but they may have done us a favour tonight. Feels like some of the bad Karma has been released. We’ll see on Saturday

Good that we didn’t sit back after going in front and we went searching for the second goal.

Also the work rate out of possession was very pleasing from front to back.

The incident unfortunately takes the shine off a good win and brings it down on the club with possible fines to come.

On the pitch that was a lot more like it tonight. Jordan Stevens MOM imho, looked like the player we first signed tonight. We looked a lot better going forward all over though, midfielders and defenders had obviously been told to get a few more shots away. Impressive crowd once again as well, was genuinely shocked there was over 2000 there

Moving on is a bit naive. A moron that doesn’t represent our club has brought the club in to disrepute and it needs to be highlighted that 98% of our fan base (or I’d hoped that many) would like to see the individual broadcast all over town and shamed for being a [SwearFilter] moron

The firework/pyrotechnic issue becomes more simple every time there is an issue. It's been well publicised through football media, so there should be no excuses. "Kids" excuse does not do it for me anymore. Yes bans without question, but naming and shaming ought to be a consequence, so e.g. someone's employment prospects could be jeopardised as well. I'm not a right wing hang 'em and flog 'em type either.

A player, or someone in the crowd could have been blinded. Career over.
Not moving on at all, the little s**t who threw it deserves all he gets and league 3 clubs can't afford the publicity or financial restrictions this will bring.

Personally delighted with the much needed win but we must try to get something at Gillingham on Saturday to get things going again. I presume we play away in the next round as we came second in the group? Not sure how this competition works to be honest.

As for the wretched fireworks incident there is definitely a fine on the way. People aren't going to like it but there is going to have to be security checks at the turnstiles. Will cause delay but it must come down to that. At Old Trafford it is the norm now for past couple of seasons. Don't like it but there you go. Having said that at some of United's games last season notably Liverpool the away fans regular produced flares in the ground so they do get through. Also brings back memories for me of the infamous Atherstone game 8 years ago. Flares being thrown everywhere that day.

I personally think the whole of the Holker St stand needs to be seated and some seriously reorganising of the ground is urgently needed. I realise this is a topic for another day but we are going to have to seriously look at security issues and the structure of the ground for next season.
