Re: Carlisle v Barrow match thread
As many have said, this was a defensive shambles but, worryingly, also a lack of fight. Two matches recently with 5 goals conceded which shouldn't happen in a league where there are no outstanding teams.
As usual, ALL the problems were down our right hand side where Warren and Ray are just not good enough. Warren can't tackle and Ray is far too slow. Neither have any sense of positional play and leave a gap large enough to get a train through.
If you add a starting attack devoid of anything at all. The only time I saw Bennett run with any pace all night was getting off the field when he was substituted. He brings zero for the team. Can't run, hardly ever wins a header and can't hold the ball up.
We have the basis of a team with McClelland, Canavan, Brough, Gotts, Newby, Whitfield and Gordon plus, possibly Feely, Garner with Farman, White, Foley and Neal as reasonable reserve strength but none of the rest are near good enough.

Looks like he is only here for a pay day.

Think people should calm down, some on here seem to want people hung, drawn and quartered.
Yes not good at Carlisle, however, we are an inconsistent team but still far better than in the recent past, a slight amount of stoicism on behalf of the fans would not go amiss. Let the Management team and players get on with ironing out another bump in the road.
If it turns out it is more than a bump in the road panic then.

BREAKING: Ceefax reporting that the Cumbria Drug Enforcement Agency have seized the teapot deployed in the Barrow dressing room during the half time interval last night at Brunton Park. When asked to confirm that traces of a horse tranquiliser had been found in the teapot, a tight-lipped spokesperson for the narco cops had neigh comment to make. (ONGOING) CrimeStoppers 0800 555 111

There's inconsistent, which most accept at this level. Then there's raising the white flag and not showing an ounce of pride or fight. Last night was the latter.MikeRenney wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 1:20 pm Think people should calm down, some on here seem to want people hung, drawn and quartered.

Can't speak for others, but I was not thinking about playoffs and that we would eventually level out to mid table, which seems to be happening. That is all fine by me.
The awful way in which we capitulated without so much as a whimper is what upsets me. Don't care if it's Carlisle, Harrogate or whoever, the least we expect is a bit of fight and pride. Look how heads went after the first goal, some didn't look like they wanted to be there.
We hate Carlisle United, we hate Workington too (and Morecambe), we hate Accrington Stanley but Barrow we love you
Re: Carlisle v Barrow match thread
Carlisle were good in the first half but we more than matched them. A goal immediately before half-time is a tonic and, for whatever reason, they raised their game in the second half. We were overwhelmed rather than giving up and couldn't cope. Possibly the best second half positive performance by opponents I have seen so far this season - as good in its way as Orient's at Holker Street, which was a master class in preventing football.

Afraid I don't agree with that in any way. Orient were a far better passing team than Carlisle. Defensively, Carlisle were solid but that meant getting to the ball and heaving it forward. There was next to no build up from the back. In fact, in the first half with the wind, Carlisle were pretty clueless and had no idea how to keep the ball in play whenever they hit a forward pass. They played better in the second half but almost all the goals were mistakes by our players usually the right side of the defence. I hardly remember an attack of significance coming from the Canavan/Brough side in the second half.Hadrian wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 3:32 pm Carlisle were good in the first half but we more than matched them. How patronising you are who's panicking, people on here stating facts which people don't want to accept over the last few weeks the performances have deteriorated ,we haven't won at home since November , you cannot deny ( even Pete Wild) is saying we're conceding too many soft goals biut nothing changes and we sign more attacking player's, whilst having no defenders on the subs bench for the last two games, if you think that's acceptable then fair enough but don't come on here with whitewashed statements!MikeRenney wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 1:20 pm Think people should calm down, some on here seem to want people hung, drawn and quartered.

4 points from the Mansfield and Orient away games, 2 points from play offs, should we swop places with Rochdale ?

No we wouldn't but, I'm mightily relieved we got all those early points otherwise I'd be very nervous!Cromwell58 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 4:59 pm 4 points from the Mansfield and Orient away games, 2 points from play offs, should we swop places with Rochdale ?

Re: Carlisle v Barrow match thread
Fair point was about to post something similar. However, for what it's worth, what I will say is I think our underlying problem is in midfield and the positioning of those selected. Once a game gets underway there seems to be almost too much fluidity. No one dominates a particular area of the pitch and offers up an outlet to the defenders. Whitfield's omission and constant subbing off or on are also a bit of a mystery. We dominated Orient away let's remember, best forget that second half debacle last night.Cromwell58 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 4:59 pm 4 points from the Mansfield and Orient away games, 2 points from play offs, should we swop places with Rochdale ?

Whitfield had straps on his thigh Saturday, so perhaps not 100%.?mulholland wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 5:13 pmFair point was about to post something similar. Wouldn't know his injury woes tbh but in the last couple of months he's rarely done the whole 90 minutes after what was a very impressive start has he.Big E wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 5:47 pmWhitfield had straps on his thigh Saturday, so perhaps not 100%.?mulholland wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 5:13 pm
