I don't think anyone actually thought at the beginning on the current season we would be where we are and in reality, we were probably all expecting a dog fight again.

However, we are in this unique position and as a club we have a choice and a chance! Do we go for it and try and win all remaining games or as some suggest, consolidate and amble over the line?

In fairness to the supporters, what happens off the pitch and the concerns about how we would cope is actually nothing to do with us, we as fans just want to be entertained and that usually means winning and progression.

Would we be whipping material a league up? Maybe but as other clubs historically have done, can actually survive and do ok. The fruits of climbing are obvious, better coverage, larger away following, better opportunity for better loan players, better sponsorship and better money for players we nurture.
It's a funny subject and I do find it odd sometimes how some do seem to not want that progress no matter how soon that is?
Everyone has their own opinions which we all must respect but me, yeh of course I would prefer an all out assault on the remaining games!! We have nothing to loose now, we have already achieved more than what people expected so why not just push on and try? Even if we only managed that extra few games in playoffs, surely it's a benefit financially?

It often takes time to build a promotion-winning side, by gradually improving and solving the weak links. Play offs might have been fun, but I would be happy to see Wild build a strong side, while the Board build the club off the pitch, for the next couple of years. Play offs nexts eason might be a reasonable objective.

Our squad is nowhere near league 1 quality, Pete Wild is still sussing out league 2 ,so walk before you run, if we started struggling gate's would plummet and we're just about keeping our heads above water ( due to ground expenditure) it would be a disaster, I don't think we're deliberately not trying to go up but personally I'd be worried if we achieved it !
As a club we're still learning, just a pity we've no major investment coming in because the money the owners are putting in won't last forever so we need to find sustainability ( easier said than done !)

Recurrence of his hip injury that’s been niggling him since he joined

Pete Wild spoke about it with me after the game amongst details on the newly formed B Team as well as his thoughts for the remainder of the season:

Promotion to League 1 would more than likely be a disaster right now. It's as simple as that.
It will be interesting to see how Carlisle fairs in League 1 this time around under Paul Simpson-they have the infrastructure but, do they have the money?

I certainly wouldn't be a fan of travelling to Cardiff or Huddersfield or QPR let alone Portsmouth or Peterborough and getting continually obliterated. Ask an FGR fan whether that 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday was worth the weekly pastings they have received for the vast majority of the season. Dale Vince use to be lauded and sometimes lampooned for his multi-million pound Ecotricity "green" funding. His wealth has had virtually zero effect on FGRs chances this season.

I'm sure the more mature Carlisle fan is probably having the same sort of thoughts right now and not without a fair bit of trepidation. The impact of budget over pure quality really starts to take effect once you get above the lower reaches of Division One. Teams like Bradford or Stockport are better equipped to survive in League 1. Maybe Salford too if only they could find a way of getting out of L2. Far more so than the likes of Mansfield, Orient or Northampton, clubs who are not quite as "rich" as you might think and would have to seriously increase investment (for this you can read non-recoverable debt) to compete. Stevenage will become a Steve Evans car crash at some point and the only person that survives that in tact is Steve Evans. Though it is fun while it lasts.

So if that paints even a reasonably fair picture of what it would take to compete in the league above we are really dreaming about a situation in which we would most likely become cannon fodder....if that is, we went up are as we currently are. It's not really the primary point of interest for fans but the financial effort it would take to make us competitive at L1 level might be such that the financial structure of the club might have to change to accommodate greater investment. The club as we know would have to evolve and some of the "tightness" around the relationships across the club might need to be sacrificed. Promotion is not a one way street. It carries risks.

BTW for some of the reasons above I dont think Carlisle will get promoted whether or not they beat us next week.

I rather think Carlisle will be promoted.
I also think they have the capacity to eventually be a Championship club.

If Carlisle have to go through playoffs,I don't think they will make it. They huffed and puffed well through season but are literally running out of puff

Why would gates plummet? Forest Green’s average attendance has gone up despite them being relegated.
I swear people on this forum just regurgitate cliches based on nothing factual.
Three of the four clubs promoted have all held their own in league one this season.

Accrington, Fleetwood and Morecambe have all held there own in Div 1 and I would like Barrow to have a shot at it. But I can't help thinking we are at our level now but we have to strive for more or the thrill of going to games dies for me. Going to be a big influx of people living in the town so the club could capture some.
Gates of over 4,000 Barrow fans alone on a regular basis may be a possibility in the near future.

It blows my mind that people genuinely think the board are ringing Pete Wild and telling him to make sure we don’t win games
