Well I agree with him. Talked a good game and left us with a huge amount of debt that the current owners had to settle.
Proof please.
Just give me a few days to hunt down all the red letters and overdue invoices that went unpaid.
Or just believe me. Left a huge trail of debts which were unknown to the current owners.
Thankfully the owners cleared all these.

Heres a link and quote, I just thought it left a sore taste as the Cassons had mentioned a few times about ground improvements which didn’t materialise (end of the day he was and is a Barrow fan who still put a lot of money into our club) fast forward to today and we’ve come so far. Anyway it’s all water under the bridge now, onwards and upwards

“There’s been more debt than we would have imagined and we’ve taken that on as the new group of owners.

The past is still shrouded in doubt as the EM reported on 25th October 2018, after Casson sold the club:
While Casson departs the Bluebirds with the club in a healthier state than how he found it, his reign will be viewed upon with some mixed feelings.

As you say water under the bridge now - we are hopefully in good hands now.

The popular side has to be next demolish that and build a full length stand moved much closer to the pitch makes sense. . There can’t be many sides with a full pitch length terrace anymore.
Great idea but one problem. Our owners don’t have a bottomless pit of cash. Doing what you suggest would cost millions that we simply don’t have
This summers work is costing nearly £900k the owners payinh half of it.
I don,t agree with doing away with the popular terrace.I am one of those people who prefer to stand and watch the match and have been doing so since the 1960s.It is always full since we went back into the EFL so I think you would get a lot of opposition if you tried to do away with it .You also get a good view of most of the pitch.

Get what you`re saying but if we are to develop Holker Street , this would be the logical place to build a new stand that would house , changing rooms, corporate boxes etc , there`s plenty of room to do this without closing roads etc. the old stand isnt up to todays standards so we could make this the new standing terrace or incorporate terracing below the new stand.
I stand on the popular side but I realise we have to move with the times to eventually become self sufficient , the stand at present is no use to maximise any money out of it !

Surely if anything has to go (when the cash/grants do become available) it has to be the Steelworks end. Anything down there would be better than that building. Still baffles me that it was built in the first place.

Crowds were down to a few hundred and the Sports and Leisure club, as was, would have been envisioned to provide a new revenue stream.

But yes, it’s a blight on the ground given where we are now. Replacing it will cost a decent amount of £££ though. Multi millions. It’s not just a case of applying for a grant and rattling some buckets. It’s a shame the health centre/GP practice didn’t go ahead that time (10 years ago?) we’d have had a new stand and a revenue source.

Taken from NWEM;
BARROW AFC bosses say an increase in seating capacity at their ground will provide a boost to the area.
The club has submitted a proposal to Westmorland and Furness Council to keep Holker Street stadium compliant with English Football League (EFL) regulations and to provide 2,000 covered seats by August 1, 2023.

The ground currently has only 1,130, with a total existing capacity of 5,449.
The application is for: "Installation of two new 'temporary' covered grandstands adjacent to Wilkie Road and seating in front of the Cross Bar and associated works."
The plan would see the capacity increased to 'circa 6,300 to 6500'.

The planning statement, signed by Director, Frazer Stewart, says: "Failure to comply with the criteria will result in the central payment from the EFL being stopped.

"This accounts for around 33 per cent of the club’s annual income and would endanger the existence of the club.”
The statement goes on to outline the 'significant benefits to the wider community' the extra seats would bring.

This includes the extra provision for away supporters.

The statement says: "The number of away fans will increase from around 650 to around 950.

"There are a significant number of away fans who stop over for the weekend and visit other towns.

"For example, 150 Stockport fans visited the pubs of Ulverston on February 25.

"Furthermore, it will also provide wheelchair access for away fans to watch with their fellow fans, and not having to watch the match surrounded by home.

The statement also explains how the proposal would provide an extra 100 step-free seats for those with mobility issues.
It outlines further benefits the proposal brings, saying: "The increase brings with it the requirement for more stewards, bar, catering, and turnstile staff, increasing the casual employment in Barrow.
The structures proposed for use are second-hand, from the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, not only reducing costs but also reducing the environmental impact of building brand new equipment."

An area of the ground would be demolished as part of the proposal.

The statement says: "The area which houses the away fans causes the club and the council safety advisory group significant and continued concern, part of which has been barriered off since July 2022, such is the concern.

"The works proposed demolishes the area and removes all areas of concern."

Ground improvements look great

Issue with Barrow and in similar extent Luton
, when you fall from grace into non league status , the main issue is to keep the footballing side alive

New stands have to come in time

Any way

Best wishes from an ex BAE employee - I watched a few games in my time in Barrow

Hope stu - aka bird man from the dept remembers me

Was an interesting 3 years in the town away from home
But met some lovely folk in a beautiful part of the world

Wishing Barrow all the best

And well done the board and team for this year
