Totally agree. Ian Evatt would tell anyone that would listen we were the best team in the league and he had the players believing it. Wild tells us we need to know our place and finishing 8th is a great season... that kind of mentality is what is doing for us.capman wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 11:40 pm Pete well once again comes out on the radio answers even finish eighth. It’s a good season. [SwearFilter] me we’ve been in the top six into August if anyone thinks if we don’t get in the play-offs it’s a good season is [SwearFilter] shocking all the managers done The last two months is to make out that where Little or Barrow, which rubs off on your players, hence why we ain’t getting the playoffs we’ve got a manager He keeps telling us we should believe that we’ve had a good season. I’ll tell you what [SwearFilter] off we haven’t. If we don’t get in the playoffs it’s a shit season

Not crap you just don’t want to hear the facts pal. JustBombadel wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 10:26 pmI don’t think the mods even read the forum anymore? Probably contributes to a handful of people using it , easy to block people but sometimes ppl don’t always log in and read utter crap like what bhbb posts.
It’s still in our hands, great attendance today, like PW said at the start of the season he has a 3 year plan and this season has exceeded our expectations.
Their last goal looked like a soft one, Smith didn’t seem to be marked .

Re: Barrow v Bradford City, match thread
I was surprised at how often a ball was played down the wing in the hope that Acquah was going to outpace a fullback. He's not a wide player and certainly doesn't have the pace to do that. That's why you have Newby, Whits and Gotts on the pitch. Also surprising was how ineffective Campbell was all night. I think that's the worst I have seen him play. I have faith he will bounce back. I have faith in Emile and Stockton to pull something out of the bag. I have faith in Pete and Adam. I don't have a lot of faith in Feeley, Warren, Worrell, Telford or Proctor though. We have more than one weak spot unfortunately.
Still...let's go into Saturday with buoyant hope. What harm can it do?

It all comes down to Saturday - we laughed and thought it’ll be all tied up by now…
For me, Wild should start one of Acquah or Stockton and partner them with Whitfield, who can run onto the second balls. That allows us to have a good option from the bench in the second half, with Telford able to come on for Whitfield too.
I don’t want to see Proctor in a Barrow shirt again. Not the calibre of striker we need, offers nothing when he comes on, and for me isn’t hungry for it.
Once again I’m surprised by the lack of leadership on the pitch. Even Canavan was quiet last night. We especially look awful from set pieces - we need the leaders in the squad to step-up and command the team. The mentality generally is very poor at the minute, as you’d expect with our form.
Oh, and Pete Wild - please stop the three subs - the team just doesn’t adjust quick enough, and it leaves us looking weak.

Funny old game football IF we draw v Mansfield and Crawley lose Bradford would need to beat Newport by 7 goals to go above us, even a couple of draws in last 2 home games would have helped was all looking great after the Grimsby result.
Re: Barrow v Bradford City, match thread
Still fuming this morning, really not sure what the game plan set out to achieve first half or was it simply a case of the players not executing their instructions? We invited a team who needed to win to keep their season alive on to us, we couldn't get out of our box for large spells of the first half and heads dropped as soon as the first went in. Surely the more sensible approach would have been to put them under pressure higher up to generate that mindset where one mistake could end Bradford's season, but it was the complete opposite.
Popular side since '03.

Two years ago I was sitting in the lounge of an hotel on Holy Island following the scores on my companion's mobile phone. I'd backed Bristol Rovers ante-post and I watched as the goals mounted to a 7-0 win which meant they overturned an inferior goal difference to Northampton even though The Cobblers won 1-3 themselves that day.behind the goals wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 8:05 am Funny old game football IF we draw v Mansfield and Crawley lose Bradford would need to beat Newport by 7 goals to go above us, even a couple of draws in last 2 home games would have helped was all looking great after the Grimsby result.
That and things like Coventry's performance on Sunday teach that almost anything is possible in football. I backed you for a top-seven finished this season and it's looking somewhat precarious right now. But I don't see a turnaround like two years ago. I think you'll need to win or Crawley will pip you.
Even if this season does end in disappointment Pete Wild has done a commendable job.
Good Luck!

Yes we know, Josh Kay's consolation for Barrow became a lot more significant as the afternoon wore on. At least we're getting time to adjust, the Northampton fans at Holker Street were celebrating all afternoon then devastated.ROKERITE wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 8:52 amTwo years ago I was sitting in the lounge of an hotel on Holy Island following the scores on my companion's mobile phone. Sorry, what I hadn't remembered about the story was it was you playing The Cobblers. So, yes, you hardly needed reminding of the events.StephenD wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 8:58 amYes we know, Josh Kay's consolation for Barrow became a lot more significant as the afternoon wore on. Massive massive thanks to the fans last night, I was in the main stand and have never known it be so loud and proud if we can re-create that for Saturday who knows what could happen. The way we are performing at the moment we’ll need a miracle to make the POs but as we know in footy things can change in the blink of an eye. Come on lads play without fear and give your adoring fans a grandstand finish to the season.

Can’t disagree with that they were due a result against us, they were absolutely relentless and did what we should’ve been doing, they never let us get a foothold credit to them. Very impressed with Platty he had a real game.
Come to think of it we’re due a result against Mansfield so all to play for.

Of course they too are playing for a play-off place and defeat last night would have killed that off.32mile_cul-de-sac wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:48 am Fair play to Bradford, best team on the night easily.
If we show the same sort of relentless never-say-die attitude on Saturday - to coin one of Pete's phrases - we can and WILL get over the line.
C'mon lads - you CAN do it! You've proved that so many times in this great season.

Re: Barrow v Bradford City, match thread
A sleep and fourteen hours later doesn’t make that seem any better.
Some of the frailties were shown up v Wrexham but they had such a good squad it understandable in a way but some of the performances since then have been nothing short of shambolic. PW has to be positive with his tactics and team selection on Saturday, no sitting back in our own half like last night inviting pressure (their keeper could’ve gone for a pint in the fanzone that first 45…..and no one would’ve noticed). There’s not a chance Mansfield will take their foot off the brake, they’ll want to put on a show for their big travelling support.
If we miss out on a play-off place this WILL be a disappointing end to the season - how can it seem any different after spend so long in the PO places?
One more effort, one more big attendance and be loud.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
