Only seen Linney a couple of times and he impressed me, he definitely won’t come cheaply though as Alty still have aspirations of play offs. Attacking midfielder hopefully the rest falls into place. Not wholesale changes but tweaks where needed.
Conn Clarke is listed as an attacking midfielder who can score goals.
How about a cheeky request to our Cumbrian colleagues to bring Luke Armstrong in on loan as he currently appears out of favour

He’s definitely more of a number 10 from what I have seen of him. Given licence to roam I think he would make things happen for us.

Me too. If one or two of those out of contract in the summer have indicated they wont sign a new contract better to sell them in January if they are willing to go rather than them going for nothing in the summer.. Im thinking Cambell, Spence or Robbie Gotts.
If we lose Campbell and Spence and we'll certainly be relegated.

In league 2 it’s rare that a player of the calibre and age of the three ive mentioned sign new contracts to extend stays at clubs. Most run contracts down to see what offers come there way and if like Whitfield they secure a move to a higher level they leave for nothing
Then let no more than 1 go , we'd have no chance of recruiting anyone of their calibre unless we pay a lot of money so they're would have to be a lot of wheeling and dealing in such a short period of time!
To be honest I'm really disappointed we're in this debate it was obvious to everyone we'd be short of a decent target man ,and be short in central midfield ( we even let Foley go then had to re sign him) unbelievable 😞
Well, judging by the comments on here, it's not obvious to many people although goodness knows why because it's been as plain as the nlose on your face that the striker recruitment has been nothing short of diabolical even when we were winning matches 1-0!

One of the top scoring strikers in the league - Lowe of Walsall - is a young loanee. There's plenty about but you have to have an eye for a player to pick them up!

IIRC one of Pete Wilds remits was to sign young hungry players improve them and then sell them on. The owners have pumped hundreds of thousands into the club and the Chelsea game aside have recouped very little. They may want a return on a player they have invested in IE salary One safeguard about selling a player In January is that you can negotiate a sell on clause should that player improve again and attract championship or premier league interest and go for a fee.
I agree if we know players are going to leave in the summer for nothing, might as well sell them in January and get a fee and a possible sell on fee, surely that makes economical sense.
Not that easy. How many clubs would want to pay any sort of a fee for a player they know they could get for nothing a few months later? Possible in the cases of Campbell or Spence because a team near the top might be willing to pay something but, even then, nothing like as much as a fee if the players had at least another year on contract.

This thread highlights ultimately what cost us a top 7 place last season. Maybe the club thought things would be different with Clemence but he’s faced with the same goal scoring problems.

Hope that's not true Jonty, is Clemence going to score himself ? apart from Spence honestly what on earth were they thinking? it cannot have been based on the stats of our present bunch of strikers frightening really 😒

Let's all be honest if we are realistically looking at stopping in league 2 we need better player's this current squad is not good enough, and player's out of contract would need a relegation clause added before any of them would consider signing.

Relegation clause are we in the bottom 2 or something? The squad we have now is more than capable as a mid table league to side and probably better than that if played correctly.

I would say that our current squad is a lot better than the squads in our first two years in league two. If you still think it is not good enough, I guess that can only be on account of the league being better quality than it was in our first two seasons.

The negativity on this forum seems to reaching an all time high. Perhaps a forum link to the Samaritans is in order.

So if the club sell Spence and or Campbell we will be relegated? Even if we manage to get a couple of hundred k for them and reinvest?Doesn’t matter apparently. We are done for without them. Either now or at the end of the season. Fact, it seems to some.

What a load of absolute tosh. I pride myself on being a bit of a pessimist ( or realist as I would see things). But even I can’t get anywhere near as dismal and depressive as some of the comments above. Just get a grip.

Unfortunately it appears some forum members would love us to fail so they can gloat "I told you so" Players come and go and get replaced by others. There are many many clubs this season n in league 2 that are worse than us although I do believe that with Stockport, Wrexham and Mansfield going up last season the league is poorer for it this season.
As for January I do believe that if bids come in for one or two of our out of contract better players and they are willing to move on they will for a fee. The last 2 seasons have seen us lose two of our better players for nothing in Patrick Brough and Ben Whitfield so it would make a change to get a decent fee for a player.
Weston gone Etoluko gone and Worrall out on loan I suspect the decks are being cleared to bring a few in during January.

You are deluded if you think we'll be OK if we lose two of our best player's and it'll be OK, what is that philosophy based on it's the equivalent of buying a lottery ticket thinking you'll win the jackpot!
Whilst we might have a lot of possession, we're creating NOTHING, this can't go on ,Yes we have a 9 point cushion but all team's at the bottom will play each other, we've lost to 3 of them, I can't personally relax on the basis we're too good to go down and No I don't want Barrow to go down and neither does anyone else no matter what the great philosopher BINGO states !
Whitfield is missed Massively and hasn't been anywhere near replaced !,Spence although no where near last seasons player is still streets better than what we have attack wise !
