There appears to be someone genuinely missing from the list. I've counted them several times to be sure and there is definitely a hundred, However we appear to have two Peter Farrells though I can only ever remember one.

He's like New York though... so good they named him twice!

Skipper, you are to be commended for spotting that. Yes, I had noticed it myself but thought I wouldn't bother mentioning it unless somebody phones in to point it out.

In true Captain Mainwaring fashion, of course I am naturally going to say "ah, I was wondering who would spot that one . . . "

Yes, there was only one Peter Farrell (what an accomplished player he was, even if he was probably a bit over the hill - - - I had him down as my MOTM when we won at Wembley in 1990).

The one going under the pseudonym of Peter Farrell (the second time) was - - - work it out, as it's alphabetical order - - - Paul Ferris!

Was Chris Speak that great? How many games did he play? I didn’t think he was here that long.

I'm not going to knock Chris Speake but I will say he definitely wasn't "Holker Street Great" material to anything like the extent that Jim Mulholland and George Smith are! Not even in the same stratosphere! Mind you, there's almost – that's 'almost' I stress – a case for saying that none of the 100 who are actually in the book are as good as Mulholland or Smith! Of course I exaggerate a little, especially when a player as good as Colin Appleton is quite rightly featured (Appleton very arguably being the best footballer ever to play for us).

Although Malcolm Edwards was not at the same level as Mulholland or Smith he could still feel aggrieved at not featuring in the book, as he is the only other member of the 66-67 promotion squad that is notable by his absence. Bizarrely, however, Edwards DOES feature in the book but only as the photograph going under the name of Jimmy Mallon!!!

Thanks for that PJ. Was racking my brains trying to figure out alphabetically who could be missing. Paul Ferris- what an amazing roller coaster of a life that lad has had.Read his book 'Boy on the Shed' . Brought up through the Irish troubles,fought against all manner of medical problems, qualified both as a physio and barrister working at Newcastle as the former..Well remember his debut at Wittons old ground when he must have asked every Barrow fan in the bar after the game for an opinion on his performance. Going back to Peter Farrell it was again at a Cheshire ground (Winsford I think) when he stood with the Barrow fans after being sacked by Tony Hesketh for ' interfering with the coaching'. He made one telling statement that he would love the managers' job at HS and would gladly walk barefoot over broken glass to take it if it was ever offered to him. He went on to coach at Bolton rising to assistant head of the Academy before going off to manage in Nigeria

The Boy on the Shed is a great read. Nominated for Sports Book of the Year. A mix of Football and the Northern Ireland troubles. Barrow gets a mention too. If anyone hasn't read it - get it. You won't be disappointed.
