We stayed in the game, didn't allow Fleetwood to score again, and could have snatched a point later on, so somebody on the pitch must have put some effort in! Not saying things can't be better, but I think some of the criticism is a bit over the top regarding this particular game. With the Canavan sending off, we know he is always going to be vulnerable to pace if he's caught one on one, but my main gripe is why someone of his experience made the decision he did, when the player still had a fair bit to do to beat Stanway and score. Anyway, its done now, here's to the next one!
A good, balanced summary.

We dont have wingbacks........so dont play wingbacks.
Its hardly rocket science.....
We have more of an attacking threat with Barky further up the pitch.Him and Whits wide can cause damage with Hemmings in the middle.
Totally agree, hes to stubborn to change his formation

Wasn't there today so have only just seen the quickfire highlights and read the match report, absolutely stupid from Canavan.

Will obviously watch the extended highlights but I'm not sure this is a game to have a headloss over, we'd have played 90 minutes with ten men when you factor in injury time and were still in with a chance of a point even right until the final whistle.

Still think we lack the personnel to be flexible in situations like this however, a possibility with ten is a 4-4-1 with Barkhuizen and Whitfield in a favoured wide midfield position to try and make the most of the limited chances you get to go forward with a man's disadvantage.
Popular side since '03.

We need a full back. every team needs to be able to go to a 4-4-2.. or 4-3-3. Either way, both barhuizsen and Whitfield are wasted in this current system. Seemingly everyone sees this apart from Whing?

We need to sign Tyler smith. No pace up front currently. Whits up there today ? But he’s not a striker, both him and Barkhuizen are being massively played out of position and not to their strengths.. they would both be great WINGERS (not wing backs) at this level

Smith from villa should be given a chance at the back now and if he does well , caravan needs to earn his place back in the team captain or not.

We need MJ back ASAP

Whing very vague about injury status of players, which makes me think it’s worse than it looks. He needs to give a breakdown on every player, where they at at, when they are likely to be back etc …

Just watched the full AW post match interview.
"I thought we were excellent" is his stock phrase and unless he takes his head out of his arse and ditches his back 3, then imo come Christmas he'll be out of a job.
Set your formation around available players not shove them in to try to make your favoured system work.
If he insists on a back 3 , then what about 3/4/3 with Whits Hemmings and Barks up top .Jacko and Newbs wide in the 4 as both can help the back 3 if needed.
It still gives you 5/6/7 defending when out of possession with 3 outlets when we win the ball.
Leave 3 forward and they have to leave at least 3 back.

It is mental we don't have a recognised RB at the club. We are so predictable and easy to play against we have no plan B.
I can't for the life of my understand why Booty was dragged yesterday hes arguably our best player and when you have 10 men someone who can get his foot on the ball and keep it. From what I've seen from Scott Smith I can't understand what he offers, for a CM he can't play and he doesn't do as the dirty work as successfully as he should, looks a bad pick up.
I listen to the interviews with Whing and we talk about recruitment why hasn't anyone asked why we don't have a right back and the agility to play a 4 (worrall doesnt count)? The obsession we have with playing a 5 at the back is bizarre.

Whing’s recruited for his set up, and is it injuries that are forcing square pegs into round holes? Not much he can do when we have a small squad, unless he brings someone in next 24 hours. It was hard going down to 10 for 80 minutes so that would have put extra on the players to fill the gap.

The way I see it at the moment is that we are only losing 1-0 when we do lose and like has already been said a lot of our players are having to play out of position because of the injuries. When we do get the other players back hopefully the situation will change.
Andy Whing stopped the rot last season so I think he will be to turn this around given time.I for one still have faith in him.

As others have said losing 1-0 when you've played 80 minutes with ten men doesn't mean it was a terrible performance, and it wasn't. We also haven't played any of the six teams below us, five of those haven't won a game yet and the other Newport beat winless Crawley. We don't play any of them for another month either and have more tough games on paper coming up, so we might need to keep the faith a bit longer unless some of the injured players return.

Me too - despite the Cavtastrophe yesterday our makeshift line-up competed well, never gave up and could have snatched something later on. Thems the breaks.
We will follow the soccer, over land and sea...

In my opinion, we need to assess this team (and Whing) when we are back to full strength. I am not a fan of our current set up at all, but Whing did sort out the slide last season and is capable of doing so again. If we are still struggling in the not too distant future, then questions will need to be asked.
