Re: Barrow v Salford City, match thread
Good team performance yesterday, Macca just rolled the dice with the substitutions and went for all 3 points which was positive but completely unnecessary in our current situation, a point would have been fine. Play like that on Sunday and we should comfortably turn Bristol Rovers over.
Midfield of Smith, Harper, McCann has similarities to Gotts, Campbell and Spence from last season. Fletcher is a headache for Defenders playing higher up. This side isn't as poor as some folk think, a few additions, a better system to fit the players and we’ll be decent outfit.

Totally agree. I think we played well last nite and the midfield looked good. Harper, although sloppy at times makes a massive difference with the way he gets around the pitchBoltonBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 10:36 am Good team performance yesterday, Macca just rolled the dice with the substitutions and went for all 3 points which was positive but completely unnecessary in our current situation, a point would have been fine. Nobody is disagreeing but the defence is shocking, and the gap between attack and the extremely slow defence is a worry !BoltonBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 10:36 am Good team performance yesterday, Macca just rolled the dice with the substitutions and went for all 3 points which was positive but completely unnecessary in our current situation, a point would have been fine. Yeah you’re right, Defense is shite in this back 3 set up which exposes our current Defenders, no proper Wing backs. Although Raglan is class, just goes about his business quietly.blue nige wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 10:55 amNobody is disagreeing but the defence is shocking, and the gap between attack and the extremely slow defence is a worry !BoltonBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 10:36 am Good team performance yesterday, Macca just rolled the dice with the substitutions and went for all 3 points which was positive but completely unnecessary in our current situation, a point would have been fine. Still find it strange how Ben Jackson, who came to the club as a full back. Where he played many times for Huddersfield can’t fill in at Right Back.

Can’t be anymore unbalanced than it is now surely. I feel for Ben Whitfield right now, an out and out Winger who has a lot of success going forward but keeps getting caught out trying to Defend, Track back. He’s never a Wing Back.

Yeah wouldn't mind that actually. Hopefully a recognised full back will be transfer priority though.BoltonBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 11:35 amShipley.

I like Shipley, he gets a hard time here but since getting terrorized at Harrogate earlier on in the season he’s got his head down and has improved a lot. You never see the lad shirking out of a challenge, the effort is always there.Mark Johnson wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 11:44 amYeah wouldn't mind that actually. No question we need to sign a decent Full Back. We’ve signed some potentially really good players but the Defense is just all over the shot in this system. The Midfield looks great in spells.

Shipley was run ragged at Accrington a few weeks ago ,yes he's a trier but he's not good enough for this level!

Re: Barrow v Salford City, match thread
Fair point but most of team was run ragged at Accrington a few weeks ago, everyone was shite. Shipley was great at Tranmere, I guess that’s why most L2 players aren’t playing higher up the leagues. Same with Scott Smith, there’s a lot there but he's only just woke up, he was awful up until the Wigan game.

Thought we played well in parts yesterday - subs were made far too late if he wanted to win the game - he should have made the changes at the hour mark or not at all. They came on when the team were in ‘hanging on’ mode, rushing passes & no one taking control. All the subs came on much earlier against Tranmere & made a difference

Re: Barrow v Salford City, match thread
Compare our defensive record with the teams from Tranmere, in 17th, down and we're really not that bad. We've only conceded 2 more than Tranmere and goal difference against the rest is way better. It's rare that we get completely turned over; it's almost always defeat by the odd goal - usually something stupid. Sort that out and we'll be OK. After the excellent performance at Tranmere, Salford (or Bromley) was probably the last team we needed to try to build confidence (we've not beaten them in 11 league attempts).BoltonBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 11:19 amYeah you’re right, Defense is shite in this back 3 set up which exposes our current Defenders, no proper Wing backs. Salford was on the ropes when they made those substitutions. More then happy for the gaffer to be going for it if he smells blood like. Stanway and Williams have gotta do a lot better with second goal if I’m being honest.

Re: Barrow v Salford City, match thread
Completely agree you want your Manager to go for it usually, but yesterday was a poor decision. We’ve Won 1 and Drawn 3 in the last 11 games. Take the point against a good Salford team following a good away Win at Tranmere and build some momentum going into another home game in a few days, put a few more on the gate.Barrowvianbedlam wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 2:27 pm Salford was on the ropes when they made those substitutions. As I've previously stated. How are we going to sort out these stupid mistakes ? It's not going to go away we've more or less had the same defence !MisterPleasant wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 2:22 pmCompare our defensive record with the teams from Tranmere, in 17th, down and we're really not that bad.
