Having watched the game on tv and having time to reflect my view on yesterday is as follows
When the line up was announced I like many I expect was shocked to see Cameron starting. Alex Reid was Murray’s first signing and he lauded him when he signed saying the signing was a statement of intent. Apart from two goals in a pre season friendly at Lancaster Cameron offered nothing last season and quite rightly was loaned out.
According to Murray he had offers from other clubs but decided to stay. Murray should have encouraged him to go
The midfield yesterday had Smith, Williams and Harper all starting all contributed to getting us relegated last season. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and again and to expect different results.
Marriot should have played instead of Smith and after last seasons debacle like Cameron Harper should have been told to find another club.
We still have to many on the books from last seasons shambles imo. Cameron, Smith, Harper, three involved yesterday need to be moved on
I didn’t see much difference yesterday than last season. Toothless up front no midfield creativity and poor defending costing us goals.
I didn’t attend any friendliest but after the positivity from those that did yesterday was an almighty let down for me

I can't recall Cameron ever scoring a goal for us. And if a striker is going thru a barren patch it usually makes them less likely to slip a better placed team mate in when opportunities arise - so you then get double jeopardy with them being useless and greedy.

I think I've seen Cameron play more times than Murray has so maybe he will come to the same conclusion that l have In time.

Pre match the two Hartlepools commentators watched Cameron warm up.
During the game they stated they thought he lacked ability whilst watching him warm up but he pug alot of effort in.

He is too slow .
It was like watching Hubbold in our dark days.
Not just him though ,just had to watch when a ball into the area was pushed out by their goalkeeper,they cleared.
Hartlepool got a chance and took it,the second one was the goalkeepers error.

We need that elusive centre forward to play alongside Rose.

Exactly how I feel. First game though , and hopefully AM will learn a lot from that. I had friends in the Hartlepool end who thought our midfield were strong. Perceptions ahy ? ....I personally think we were so bad last season a performance like yesterday just reinforces all the fears and doubts that are still fresh in the memory.
Good performance at home next week should sort that out ....if not I dread to think what my mood is going to be like.

Depends what the offers were and how much he's on here. Seems that quite a few were given deals too good to turn down and no other team can match them given their ability - or lack of it!

Cameron in pre season games looked a different player to the one here last year.
He did score a good finish from a cross against Blackpool.
Having seen all the pre season home games, this team is different gravy to last seasons squad.
Give the manager and players time and they will show that.
Yes we lost our opening game.
Yes it is disappointing and hoped for better.
Remember though, in our promotion season under Ian Evatt we not only lost a friendly to Holker OB, but our opening 2 League games (2-1 at Wrexham and 3-0 at home to Harrogate) and only managed 2 wins and a draw in the opening 7 games.

Given all those here last season have taken a 30 to 40% pay cut we must have been paying way above the odds last season if they have turned down deals elsewhere

Are you sure they were given that much of a pay cut? Where did that info come from?

I was absolutely amazed to see Marriot left out whilst I thought apart from the missed chance Cameron did ok but he had no one anticipating and running off all the headers he won. Desperately short of a calm and creative midfielder and a striker with some pace. Maybe the ‘iron in the fire’ is just that! Tink on another day we could have got a point out of that yesterday as they weren’t great but have quality where it matters.

First game of the season against a team fancied to be right up there with players like Nolan, Harris, Popov and hugill who wouldn’t look out of place in the league above. They’ll be fine

Awful match between 2 poor teams but maybe that is because all the teams in this league are poor. However, based on today, I would be surprised to see either team finish in the top 10. As far as I could see, we have 2 big central defenders who will win almost everything in the air and give fouls away by the dozen! Otherwise we had nothing. Not even a modicum of creativity in midfield and a non-existent attack. I don't know where all this pace was that the manager said he had brought in because only Walker on the right looked to have any for the first quarter of an hour or so.
However, I guess all the posters who come on here and think Hartlepool are going to be near the top must be blinded by the publicity that they have spent a lot of money. If they have, most of it has been wasted because they created not much more than we did other than 1 very good snap shot for the first goal by a player who did absolutely nothing else in the match. The second goal should have been saved comfortably by Winterbottom who wasn't convincing when coming for any crosses. In fact, the one player from Hartlepool who did look decent was the goalkeeper who handled very securely. Only the first match but a huge improvement is needed over that performance.

We want a tough tackling team yes….. but a team that bundles players over? Are we going to be that team? No thanks. Ref was very lenient yesterday.

Nolan and popov played in a side that got relegated from the National league last season and Harris has had one good season out of how many in his career? All good players but by no means world beaters and none have proved themselves in the EFL
