It's a tricky one.
Yesterday as a spectacle it was dire. Like everyone else in the ground I was desperate for just one to go in to keep us in with a shout.
It just didn't look like happening, and to watch really ineffective and unattractive football is a test for even the most ardent of supporters, and I include myself as such.
I'm not going to stop going, but on the back of Torquay, after yesterday, I confess to the thought having crossed my mind if the style remains frustratingly ugly.
As I've been saying for a long time, we are one dimensional. Without total fitness, commitment and team spirit it won't work. I was disappointed to see some squabbles between our own players during the game. We are easy to play against.
I suspect the players aren't so keen on playing hoof it. It's constantly physical, challenging for high balls all the time. It surprises me that some posters don't realise why Hannah isn't played more. He simply doesn't fit the style.
We need to win more headers than we have been recently playing this style, and the constant flick ons need to be more effective.
Disappointing times, but it could change on Tuesday, that's why I'll be there.
There may be a core of 1000 supporters who come through thick and thin, but there is a definite 200 to 400 who are fickle. They come when things are going right, but suddenly drop off after a few matches if things are going against us or the football looks poor.
I have to ask...if Ross Hannah isn't to our style, why the hell did we get him in in the first place?

Perhaps the style hadn't been finalised when he was available at the start. Remember we had 2 out and out wingers at the beginning of the season. Howarth has now gone, and Meikle is out on loan. Neither of them played often. I can't understand why the new winger loanee has come in. You'd have to ask the manager why he doesn't play Hannah regularly, and why he bought him in the first place. To me the former is a mystery, the latter is obvious, but what do I know?
Support is understandably fickle. Just human nature. Personally all the team need to offer me as a regular attendee is total commitment. If they show they aren't interested, then I won't be either.
I dislike the current style of play, but I can put up with it - just. As a paying fan I'm entitled to say that. I don't think my view will change, but a diet of total hoofball for the tenure of Paul Cox isn't totally attractive, whether he's successful or not. If he wants to (and can only) play that way, he needs better headers of the ball in the team. We are missing Harrison and Parry.

I think fans can put up with it if it's done right and we pick up points. But you are right - we are all different and have our own individual thresholds on whether to come or not.
Regarding Ross Hannah...I take your point about the style not being finalised - but did we really play that different when Andy Cook was here last season?

After that performance yesterday, all we want to see is a team that has shape and plays football, but with Cox i dont think we will see it happen. Ive hust read an article in the Non-League about us, Say no more!!!!!
Our current average attendance is 1397
Take a look at our historic attendances:
http://www.european-football-statistics ... b/barr.htm
Only 2 other seasons in the last 17 years have we averaged better. Even if the attendances are low for the rest of the season it is no worse than our norm.
We have a core of just over 1000 and I cant see that changing. All I want to see is our team first and foremost safe and then competing well in the league alongside the club progressing, which it is. Or how about we do a Kidderminster, try and needlessly play a possession based game and get relegated. Maybe your so called 'paying public' would turn up and we would average 2000?

Does that figure account for a record breaking attendance in the fa cup?

If it does - would be good to see the median attendance rather than the mean...or strip out the FA Cup game as an outlier...

I don't know who the fans were but the steward was Owen McAloone who worked in the stand. There is a mention of him passing away in the R.I.P. thread on the forum.

Think we got away with that penalty. We've seen them given for a lot less. No wonder the lad was frustrated, the ref should have just waved it away, yet he gave him the second yellow. Harsh

I would not criticize Bennett he has performed week in and out but he is no Andy Cook he is still learning his trade at this level.
We have Byron coming back soon, he is 10 X the player Cook is.
Really ?

We "bought" Hannah because he's scored goals for fun at this level for other teams, if Harrison hadn't come in him and Bennett might have started most games for all we know.
As for wingers Haworth and Meikle were never going to be good enough to start week in week out if the pre season aim was a play off push

Yes. 100% . I don't see how you can argue with that?
