Jolley gone

Re: Jolley gone
I watched the game on Saturday and have to say what i saw really depressed me. I'm not a fan of Barrow but have over the decades watched various encounters with those over the Bay. Too many times you came out on top and your recent long awaited promotion back to the Football League was greeted with enthusiasm that another North West based club was part of the EFL.
However the lack of pride in your shirt by certain players on view was sickening and I hope that your latest manager is able to instill some pride into playing for a club with a long tradition.
Relegation back to the world of non league would be a disaster but improvements on the field have to be made unless the totally unacceptable happened which given what I witness on Saturday is a distinct possibility.

Welcome back, Pedro. I hope the exile on your supposed moral high ground was refreshing although initial posts aren't too promising.
I do think your ongoing bromance with the PM might be better conducted in the 'Other Stuff' forum where it might more easily be ignored.

Thanks I just did not like the appointment of Jolley because of his past.Hadrian wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 1:32 pmWelcome back, Pedro. I hope the exile on your supposed moral high ground was refreshing although initial posts aren't too promising.

It's about your values irrespective what it costs you in all terms.
Hopefully we can survive under Rob Kelly let's agree no matter what we all want the same end result.

Re: Jolley gone
My suggestion would be to bring either Sam Hird or Jason Taylor off furlough and put one or both into the assistants role vacated by Kelly both with lots of experience and who both care about the club

Welcome back Pedro. Whatever the reasons for your self-isolation your avoidance of the Jolley debate turned out to be a pretty wise move.Pedro wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 6:22 pmThanks I just did not like the appointment of Jolley because of his past.Hadrian wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 1:32 pm

Hopefully fate will look look a bit more kindly on our well meaning if a little flawed board who it has to be said do seem to have developed this penchant for appointing managers based on their words rather than their deeds (I recall that Paul Hornby stated that Michael Jolley had been subject to two extensive and far reaching interviews).
Rob Kelly is simply a football guy who's been around a long time. Whether or not anybody rates him or not, what you see is definitely what you get. I thought Jolley whatever his faults might connect better with the players and boy did I get that wrong. So I wont tempt fate by suggesting the squad will feel more comfortable with Kelly who will not over-complicate things. From his time as caretaker there is room for hope. Though for this to work one or two of his senior players will need to stand up and be counted in the dressing room as well as on the pitch.

They may not want to after way they've been treatedBroughton Fan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 8:32 pm My suggestion would be to bring either Sam Hird or Jason Taylor off furlough and put one or both into the assistants role vacated by Kelly both with lots of experience and who both care about the club

Hopefully they will see that the way they have been treated is down to two duff managers, rather than the club.boyliegladbach wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 9:10 pmThey may not want to after way they've been treatedBroughton Fan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 8:32 pm My suggestion would be to bring either Sam Hird or Jason Taylor off furlough and put one or both into the assistants role vacated by Kelly both with lots of experience and who both care about the club

Re: Jolley gone
With hindsight this was a brave, but totally correct move by the board. Dunn and Jolly were both miserable failures, but to mallet a manager after only a few games took guts. Credit to the board where it's due. They've made some big mistakes, but this is one they got bang on.
Re: Jolley gone
Lets hope that they are looking seriously into the next appointment and get it right this time. Whatever the process was for hiring Dunn and Jolley obviously wasn't right - interview etc so hopefully the BOD are doing some research on whos available and maybe speak to Kelly. I know he doesn't want the job but if he changes his mind ? Or even who he thinks would be good to take charge esp if hes going to stay as no2
Re: Jolley gone
I think he didn’t want the job last time as loyalty to Dunn who had brought him in, now the dust has settled I hope Kelly gets it at the end of the season, as Shearer said in the Q&A Kelly would get his vote, and have the keys to the town if he keeps us up.LCBAFC40 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 7:50 am Lets hope that they are looking seriously into the next appointment and get it right this time. Re: Jolley gone
Just listening to Rob's interviews tells you all you need to know about the lad. One game at a time, give it everything, control what you can control etc. He's exactly the kind of manager we needed to hire first time round. Dunn and Jolley wanted to use Barrow to learn their trade and advance in the game. Rob clearly doesn't give a hoot for personal ambitions, he just wants the team to give their all to get results.
Re: Jolley gone
I don't think Rob Kelly would want the job on a permanent basis. It is a huge amount of work and pressure and my guess is that, while he is willing to take over short-term, he would prefer to be the man behind the scenes.
That's just my assumption, of course, but I don't think we should be speculating and putting pressure on him at this stage. One game at a time, don't look too far ahead, as he would say.
I would hope, however, that if we stay in L2 and look for a new manager in the summer, he would be involved in the selection process. His knowledge of football would be invaluable.

Re: Jolley gone
His attitude may be clouded by past events. Took over as caretaker at Leicester in 2006 and steered them away from relegation to L1. Got the permanent job on the back of it then sacked 12 months later after a run of poor results. Of course he is 15 years older and wiser now and may get on better with Barrow board et al than with the Leicester set. Who knows?
